**Community Support Worker**
We are looking for support in-home and in-community to work directly with families and individuals with developmental disabilities in Calgary. The CSW will be part of the team that supports in the areas of lifestyle and daily activity that involve community inclusion and promoting independence.
All positions are with individuals and families with PDD Family Managed Support agreements. The CSW will report directly to the family of the person with a developmental disability.
**Duties and responsibilities**:
- Build a relationship with and get to know the individual being supported.
- Support the individual by being present and answering questions respectfully
- Safeguard the individual in the home and community when needed
- Have the ability to work independently in unstructured environments and to work collaboratively with the family and existing supports
- Communicate any issues promptly with the family and respond to unpredictable situations, if necessary, in a calm manner
- The ability to problem-solve and deal with unpredictable situations
- The ability to demonstrate patience and use thoughtful language
- The ability to lead by example and support our family member to continue learning new skills
**Qualifications**:
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviours
- Excellent communication skills
- An understanding of the complexities and nuances of working within another families household
- Experience and understanding of inclusion and community
- Excellent communication skills
- Employ effective time management skills
- Recent (within the last year) Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Valid class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
- 2 million dollars liability insurance
**Additional assets**:
- Nonviolent Crisis intervention Training (CPI) or equivalent
- Trauma Informed Care Training
- Abuse Prevention Response Protocols (APRP)
