About the Role
The Quality Engineering Specialist is responsible for monitoring the quality of assigned products produced in manufacturing operations, monitoring field reported quality issues of assigned products, coordinating corrective actions on all quality issues in a timely manner and providing regular status reporting to management.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist Quality Manager as tasked to address quality assurance process issues. Drive back to front end of the process to understand why items escaped and put action plan in place to eliminate reoccurrence
- Act as a Project Manager conducting problem solving initiatives to improve quality and reduce COPQ
- Create data collection plans. Compile and analyze quality performance data, develop graphs, charts and quality reports
- Provide training on Quality Engineering tools and techniques
- Participate, audit, and drive Quality metrics
- Conduct developmental Quality Assurance audits
- Develop Run charts, Control Charts, Gauge R&R studies, and Correlation Analysis
- Calculate Process Capability index and create Histograms (as required)
- Lead or support PFMEAs (Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) and CARs (Corrective Action Request) to prevent or eliminate defects in manufacturing and assembly processes
- Follow a structured problem solving approach using 8D, Cause Map, Fishbone Diagram, or Six Sigma tools and techniques
- Coordinate with Production, Operations Engineering, Engineering, and Program Management to conduct product and process failure analysis and determine root cause corrective and preventative action
- Prepare reports, corrective action statements, metrics and other documents in support of assigned work cells
- Have a comprehensive understanding of the quality of Quality data
- Investigate deficiencies that are internally generated or supplier-caused to determine root cause and corrective actions.
- Attend MRB as required to support the disposition of defects and provide status on action items
- Lead ZDP (Zero Defect Plan) process for respective area and/or key metric
- Must be able to communicate data in daily/weekly/monthly meetings
- Must be able to create ECR/ECO through Team Centre
- Must be able to sign off ECR/CECO/RFV through Team Centre
- Must be able to use the ERP LN (Enterprise Resource Planning) system
- Perform process audits
- Provide technical direction to personnel inspecting and testing product
- Provide regular progress status reports to management
- Support the Containment process
Required Capabilities
- Ability to read & write technical reports
- Ability to read and understand complex technical requirements
- Ability to research, investigate and interview
- Possesses the diplomatic skill needed to facilitate improvements in organization-wide processes
- Good organization skills and ability to multi-task in a fast paced product-manufacturing environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Desired Education and Experiences
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (mechanical, materials, engineering science) or science
- Minimum 4 years of experience in product development, manufacturing quality control or testing
- Practical knowledge of project management
- Professional Engineering designation is an asset
- Ability to root cause quality issues that surface in a product manufacturing operation performing 8Ds, Fishbone Diagrams, Cause Maps, 5Whys and PFMEAs
- Six Sigma Green belt or Black Belt is an asset
- Quality Engineering certification is an asset
- Quality Assurance/Auditing/Investigation experience is an asset
- Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 processes
- Prior experience working with military/defense programs is highly desired
