Position Summary
The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals, including cooking, roasting, grilling, baking, testing for palatability, and carving. The Cook prepares and serves meals and snacks following established menus and recipes, modifying, and adjusting as required, and coordinating planning food preparation and cooking schedules. Duties include receiving supplies, performing inventory control duties, storing goods, and updating inventory records. The Cook also performs cleaning duties including the cleaning of food preparation equipment, utensils, the kitchen, and storage areas. As needed, the Cook provides directions to food service workers, clients, and volunteers.

Program Summary
The shelter has 30 beds which consists of separate sides for woman-identified participants and male participants on the other side. Staff provides three meals a day, there are a few rooms that can be used for non-binary folks. There are staff on site twenty-four hours a day over three separate shifts in the building. The folks in this space have access to indigenous cultural liaisons who creates programing connected to culture and build relationships with participants. There is peer support specialist available seven days a week as well. There is a medication program for the residents of the shelter for those who chose to use this service. The shelter has a wide range of referral streams that are not just limited to the coordinated access through BCH.

**Qualifications**:

Many forms of education and experience are valued, including volunteering, and lived experience of mental health/substance use/homelessness. Minimum education and experience include:

- Grade 12
- Professional Cook Training Certificate
- Certificates in First Aid and Food Safe
- Recent, related experience of six months
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Key Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Constant standing.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to organize and prioritize.
