Cedars at Cobble Hill (Cedars) is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of addiction and enhancing the quality of life for individuals, families and communities throughout Western Canada. Cedars specializes in the treatment of alcohol and other drug addictions along with various process addictions including, but not limited to, eating disorders and gambling. We offer a full continuum of recovery-oriented programs designed to provide a framework for achievable, sustainable recovery. Cedars is located in Cobble Hill, British Columbia situated on 65 acres of forested, private land, which provides a picturesque landscape and tranquil treatment setting. Vancouver Island is not only renowned for spectacular West Coast scenery, but also features a vast network of recovery communities.
The Associate Counsellor is a therapeutic guide journeying with patients on their road of recovery - from admission to discharge. Associate Counsellors at Cedars provide clinical assessments and contribute insightful, practical and meaningful information to assist in the development of treatment plans. As a member of the treatment team, the Associate Counsellors will work collaboratively with the clinical and support staff teams to provide continuous quality care to the patient population. A Cedars Associate Counsellor must possess foundational knowledge of concurrent disorders, eating disorders and thorough understanding of chemical dependency.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
The below list is a guideline and may not be inclusive of all that is expected on a day-to-day basis. An Associate Counsellor is required to prioritize and respond to the needs of the daily operations of Cedars in a professional and calm manner.
- Assist the clinical team in identifying weekly individualized patient treatment goals
- Coordinate family or significant persons conferences as required while the patient is in treatment.
- Interface with Referral Agents, Funding Sources and Emergency Contacts as required
- Assist with clinical case management
- Complete Biopsychosocial assessments and Alcohol & Drug histories
- Assign and review assignments as guided by Clinical Counsellors
- Facilitate group therapy, lectures, workshops, and educational groups as directed by the program schedule.
- Perform meal monitoring and support as needed, documenting significant occurrences or interactions
- Assess suicidality and possibility for danger to self or others.
- Document resident’s progress throughout the treatment experience.
- Assist any patient that is experiencing difficulties and requires clinical support
- Assist in monitoring patient activities, ensuring they are conducted according to the “Patient Responsibilities” and Cedars’ operational procedures
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Counselling Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in a related field is preferred. A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered, at the discretion of the Clinical Director.
- One year in acute care or residential addiction treatment setting or closely related experience.
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally, and in writing
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with the various departments involved in the patient treatment process
- Ability to collaborate and problem solve with other team members including counseling, medical, administrative, and support staff
- A commitment to creating a positive environment conducive to healing for both patients and staff
