**Essential Job Functions**
- Clean and sanitize classrooms including hallways and restrooms.
- Dust and mop floors
- Clean and disinfect washrooms and fixtures
- Empty trash cans and other waste containers
- Check and replenish classroom and restroom supplies
- May move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies
- Ensure all equipment is clean and in proper working order.
- Set up tables and chairs for programs and meeting activities as required
- Is available in emergency situations involving the school building such as a power failure, heating and ventilation problems, plumbing, security and any related problems that may arise.
- Performs minor maintenance as required such as fixing locks, patching plaster, painting, fixing faucets and general repairs
- Performs annual maintenance items such as washing windows, stripping and waxing floors, cleaning all light fixtures, vents and ducts, painting and drywall repair.
- Sweeps, dusts, mops, washes interior walls and floors, cleans furniture and carpeting regularly.
- Periodic spray/buffing of common area floors and gym

**Knowledge and Technical Skills**
- Demonstrated skill and knowledge in custodial practices, equipment and their use.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.
- General knowledge of equipment maintenance and cleaning techniques.
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in general maintenance and construction work and the ability to learn their use.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students, parents and suppliers.
- A level of reading, comprehension and writing skills sufficient to understand oral and written instructions or directions and written information regarding site activities.
- A level of mathematical skills sufficient to perform calculations such as cleaning fluids ratios.
- Ability to use electronic mail.

**Education and Experience** (Combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.)
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of general maintenance and/or custodial experience.

**Work Environment / Job Challenges**

The role of School Custodian is a physically demanding job and involves working in different types of environments, such as closed rooms or open grounds under different weather conditions. The scope of duties requires an individual with the physical stamina to endure long periods of walking, standing and climbing stairs. Lifting, pulling and pushing weights (up to 50 pounds), are also a requirement. Good hand and finger dexterity is important to handle and operate equipment, and body flexibility helps assume different positions including crawling, bending, crouching, kneeling and climbing.

**Credentials/Certificates**
- Current Police Record Check for the for the vulnerable sector (within the last 6 months)
- Must maintain a valid driver's license and have own vehicle

**Job Type**
- Full-time, Permanent
- Hours: 2:30 - 10:00
