Reporting to the Program Directors of the Mental Health and Addictions Program, the Documentation Specialist will function as a leader working directly with leadership of the Mental Health and Addiction Program to continually improve the documentation system in the Mental Health and Addictions Program by driving and optimizing clinical and business adoption to achieve optimization.
The Documentation Specialist possesses strong leadership skills to successfully influence stakeholders to translate clinical and business requirements into technical solutions that support best practices and quality patient care. Using their clinical/service/departmental expert knowledge the Documentation Specialist advocates for inter-professional and interdepartmental practice requirements, decision support tools and data quality. The Documentation Specialist actively participates in, and contributes to, future state design and system optimization for the Mental Health and Addictions Program, people and process change management, successful optimization of technology to continually improve the way work is done, user proficiency and sustained utilization that supports benefits realization.
**Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following**:
- Recommends clinical/administrative requirements, user preference and results of workflow analysis in software and technical development of the HIS
- Reviews, analyzes and interprets clinical requirements and expected outcomes, makes recommendations that drive optimization and conducts user acceptance test
- Promotes awareness of optimized processes by using targeted communication techniques in accordance with stakeholders
- Participates in development of best practice documentation, process improvement work flows, and other performance improvement job aids
- Contributes to the design, execution, and evaluation of educational supports and training requirements for user adoption and sustainability
- Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Diploma/Degree in healthcare related discipline
- 3-5 years health care experience. Previous experience in health informatics, specifically Cerner
- High level of initiative, decisiveness and business acumen
- Ability to relate to individuals and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation and group process skills
- Effective presentation skills.
- Demonstrated initiative, independent thinking and creative problem solving
- Demonstrated critical thinking and decision making
- Conflict management skills
- Demonstrated experience working across a health care organization.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of project management
- Ability to organize, prioritize and balance work.
- Strong adaptability to rapidly changing environments and demands
- Sound knowledge and experience in performance measurement
- Proficient in MS Office Suite including MS Word, Excel, MS Project, MS Visio and SharePointTM
