Reporting to the Measurement Supervisor, the Measurement Technician is responsible for supporting and maintaining measurement equipment following applicable rules and standards, as well as conducting routine checks and periodic testing on all measuring equipment. May performing other related duties as directed.
What You'll Be Doing
Checks on segment line balance for applicable pipeline systems.
Good communication with operations, maintenance, and control center as to operational problems and where or what the tasks are for the day.
Field representative between Gibson Energy and third-party shippers.
Monitor process conditions when maintaining equipment and notify stakeholders of any deviations from normal.
Troubleshoot metering, volumetric, and product quality issues.
Carry out work orders related to measurement equipment.
Meter proving and calibration on pipeline/process, rail loading rack, and truck loading rack measurement systems.
Repair and re-prove meters as required.
Provide proving reports and send them to the measurement specialist to verify accuracy.
Store and maintain measurement-related documentation and reports.
Maintain meter-proving equipment to meet Gibson Energy and Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Directive 17
Keep housekeeping to high standards.
Review measurement procedures annually.
Review measurement preventative maintenance program as required to ensure industry relevance and regulatory compliance.
Ensure recommended equipment spares are available and ready for use.
Advise Operations of new and appropriate measurement products.
Coordinate and deliver measurement training for field personnel as required.
Support the Gibson Energy project team in growth or maintenance projects as required.
Work with Operations and administration staff to resolve metering issues.
Stay updated with measurement-related competencies via the Competency Management and Development System (CMDS)
Prioritize measurement concerns.
Participate in regulatory and third-party audits as required.
What You'll Bring
Journeyperson Instrumentation/Electrical Certification or/and Certified Engineering Technologist.
3 -5 years of pipeline measurement-related experience with a thorough understanding of industry measurement practices.
Ability to interface with field operations staff and business unit representatives to resolve issues in a safe and expedient manner.
Strong interpersonal, innovation and organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and to solve problems effectively.
Ability to work and set priorities in a multi-task environment.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficient in the use of computers with experience in business software, including Microsoft Office and Maximo.
**Experience with industry software/hardware including**: SCADA systems, varying flow computer systems, and PLC's.
Possession of the required safety certificates of the industry: H2S, WHMIS, First Aid, etc.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
This position will be approximately 80% Field tasks and 20% Administrative tasks.
This position requires overtime coverage with an on-call rotation.
This position requires occasional travel to support assets.
Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces as well as climb ladders and stairs.
Standing for frequent periods and sitting occasionally, including driving.
Occasional bending and twisting is required as is prolonged neck positioning.
