PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR

**Position Summary**
Reporting to the Superintendent, this Supervisor is responsible for the execution of production duties and directs the tasks of the workforce, ensuring proper work and health and safety practices are followed. The Supervisor provides leadership and direction to a shift to ensure production targets are met in a safe and efficient manner.
**Position Functions**
- Follow production protocols and standard operating procedures as established by the division Superintendent.
- Report all equipment breakdowns to division Superintendent, if available, and contact respective maintenance support services.
- Maintain a current operational knowledge of all plant equipment for purposes of training employees and the safe operation of equipment.
- Daily review of employee’s time cards, ensuring the time and attendance data is accurate.
- Meet with employees to discuss performance and behavioral related issues and document as required.
- Assist the division Superintendent and Operations Manager with forecasting of workforce requirements to meet future production goals.
- Manage Stock Levels with help from the inventory control department.
- Conduct pre-shift meeting and regular tool box talks to maintain appropriate levels of communication for each shift between Supervisors/ Lead Hands, Superintendent, division Operations Manager and other departments, as required.
- Assist the purchasing department with the forecasting, monitoring and analysis of material usage.
- Coordinate the storage and allocation of material in the warehouse.
- Coordinate next day loads with our Logistics team
- Troubleshoot specific production problems as required.
- Liaison between the production shop and other departments, as required.
- Maintain awareness and conform to supervisory responsibilities set forth in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, ensuring that the division operates in a safe manner, monitoring and correcting unsafe behaviors or conditions.
- Conduct routine inspections of the workplace and job safety and maintain records of workplace inspections.
- Interface with the Joint Health and Safety Committee regarding health and safety issues, including participation in regular workplace inspections, as required.
- Report accidents and/or injuries and investigate workplace accidents, injuries and incidents, as required.
- Provide all information pertaining to workplace accidents and inju ries to Human Resources for processing pursuant to the Workers’ Compensation Act.
- Supervise the performance of outside personnel while operating in the respective division of Salit Steel, ensuring that outside contractors and subcontractors have reviewed the company’s Health and Safety guidelines and policies and have completed the applicable safety awareness acknowledgment form.
- Work in accordance with company rules and regulations and ensure that those under your direction work in a safe manner.
- Lead by example and provide positive motivation and build morale amongst all division employees.
**Working Conditions**
- The successful incumbent will be working 40+ hours per week.
- The successful incumbent will divide their time between the office as well as the shop floor.
- On-going use of a computer is required. Must be comfortable working with Google suite of products.
- Working outdoors in the elements

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a foreman or Lead in a manufacturing environment providing supervision to 10 or more employees.
- Completion of college/vocational or technical training.
- Lean / Six Sigma experience an asset.
- Strong time and priority management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage conflict and diffuse difficult situ ations effectively.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver messages at all levels in the organization.
- Ability to multitask and manage several priorities simultaneously.
- Previous experience working in a unionized environment preferred.
- Flexible to work rotating shifts.
