**About the Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Technical Manager and working collaboratively with the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PLM) management team and medical staff the Transfusion Medicine Technical Supervisor is responsible for the efficient, timely, cost effective, and high-quality Transfusion Medicine service within the Victoria General and Halifax Infirmary sites. The technical supervisor supports and actively supervises the day to day operation, including after-hours if required.
- Ensures the provision of rapid, accurate test results to healthcare providers by effectively deploying and supporting the technical and administrative staff
- Ensures that equipment and precision instruments used in the division are properly serviced and maintained.
- Ensures there are sufficient and appropriate materials available to perform testing and quality assurance.
- Responsible for blood product inventory management and ensuring appropriate utilization.
- Ensures high standards of technical and safety procedures by constant evaluation and monitoring.
- Supports and coordinates recruitment, training, performance evaluations and performance management.
- Coordinates the availability of resources for implementation and ongoing evaluation of approved new tests, procedures, and equipment.
- Consults with, collaborates, and responds to patients, healthcare providers, hospitals, Canadian Blood Service, nursing units and other internal and external clients regarding delivery of services.
- Collaborates with the Nova Scotia Blood Coordinating team and other provincial and health care professionals to improve standardization and Provincial redistribution
- Informs decisions about the most efficient use of financial, human and material resources while meeting operational needs and working within the appropriate policies and financial budgets.
- Performs administrative functions such as scheduling, time capture and approval of overtime and vacation
- Participates in short
- and long-term planning for area(s) of responsibility, including planning for new, revised or expanded service.
- Makes objective and respectful decisions consistent with policies, standards and objectives of the laboratory in an environment that involves consideration of patient safety, future needs of the organization and best use of human and material resources.
- Demonstrates good stewardship in the identification, reporting & mitigation of unsafe Acts or conditions.

**About You**:

- Graduate of an approved program in Medical Laboratory Science or MSc. in relevant discipline.
- Must be licensed with NSCMLT
- Certification with CSMLS is required
- Medical Laboratory Technologist with four (4) years progressively more responsible experience in a laboratory, plus completion of a management program or commitment to successfully complete a management program in three years and/or a combination of education, training, and progressively more responsible experience
- Technical expertise in Transfusion Medicine is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrates leadership capabilities. Previous management experience and direct supervision of staff in a laboratory setting is strongly preferred
- Excellent organization and decision-making skills
- Effective and respectful communication and interpersonal skills are essential
- Knowledge of management systems and accreditation requirements
- Advanced computer skills and in-depth knowledge of Cerner Laboratory Information System (LIS), as related to the function in Transfusion Medicine is preferred
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

**Hours**:

- Permanent, Full-Time / 100% / 75 Hours Bi-weekly
- Travel may be required

**Compensation and Benefits**:
