**Position Summary**:
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Perform comprehensive functional testing of protection and control schemes on custom-built switchgear assemblies within our facility.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control logic diagrams to verify correct assembly and wiring.
- Configure, set up, and test protective relays (e.g., SEL, GE, Basler, Siemens) using standard test equipment (e.g., Omicron).
- Conduct point-to-point wiring verification, insulation resistance testing, and continuity checks.
- Perform critical apparatus testing including High Potential (Hi-Pot) tests to verify dielectric strength, Partial Discharge (PD) testing to assess insulation quality, and Basic Impulse Level (BIL) testing to confirm transient voltage withstand capability (as required).
- Conduct Heat Run (Temperature Rise) tests to validate the thermal performance of current-carrying components under load.
- Test and verify communication systems and protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850) integrated into the equipment.
- Develop, follow, and refine standardized test procedures for various equipment configurations, including specific procedures for Hi-Pot, PD, BIL, and Heat Run tests.
- Assign tasks and manage daily workflow for team member(s) ensuring efficient test execution.
- Provide on-the-job training, technical mentorship, and guidance to supervised staff.
- Review test results and documentation prepared by supervised staff for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.
- Ensure supervised staff strictly follow all safety protocols, especially during high-voltage testing.
- Meticulously document all test procedures, results, and deviations, paying close attention to data gathered during apparatus testing.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to resolve any issues discovered during testing.
- Perform final Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) inspections and checks prior to equipment shipment.
- Assist in preparing equipment for and potentially participating in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with clients, which may include demonstrating results from key apparatus tests.
- Provide occasional (approx. 5%) remote or on-site field support for commissioning assistance or troubleshooting complex issues, leveraging your deep product knowledge.
- Adhere to all company safety protocols and procedures within the manufacturing environment, especially when conducting high-voltage tests.
**Required Qualifications**:
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with medium voltage switchgear, protective relays, and control systems.
- Proven ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings (schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams).
- Hands-on experience testing protective relays and control circuits using standard test sets (e.g., Omicron, Doble).
- Strong understanding of protection principles, control logic, and power systems.
- Familiarity with major relay manufacturer software.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for documentation and reporting.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- Experience in a switchgear manufacturing or testing environment.
- Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) procedures.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., CSA, IEEE, ANSI, NETA testing standards).
- Experience with PLC programming and testing.
- Familiarity with communication network testing.
