**Role Responsibilities**

**1. Overview**:

- Ensure safe, reliable operation of all equipment, including pressure equipment and piping, while maintaining environmental compliance and production quality.
- Monitor and adjust complex processes via the control panel to achieve optimal pulp quality and production targets.
- Perform start-up and shutdown procedures for processes as needed.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and complete regular checklists.
- Collect and analyze pulp, liquor, and filtrate samples.
- Operate a forklift for chemical tote placement and equipment staging.
- Receive and unload chemicals from truck deliveries and CN rail cars.
- Write work permits, direct maintenance activities, and lock out equipment for maintenance.
- Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping in designated areas.
- Assist in troubleshooting process and equipment issues.
- Enter work notification requests or malfunction reports into the SAP system to ensure area issues/deficiencies are prioritized, planned, and scheduled.
- Obtain a Pulp & Paper Technician Certificate within four years of hire.

**2. Field Roles - Chips Screens, Digester, Brownstock, Bleach, Chemical Preparation/Chemical by Rail**:

- Adhere to safety protocols specific to each process area.
- Perform daily checks on field equipment as part of the operator basic care program.
- Report maintenance needs and complete malfunction reports.
- Maintain housekeeping according to the schedule.
- Respond to requests from panel operators or maintenance teams.
- Collect samples for quality testing and verify online instrumentation.
- Perform physical tasks such as climbing, lifting, handling materials, and using tools for maintenance and cleaning, both indoors and outdoors.

**3. Panel Roles - Digester/Brown and Bleach/Chemical Preparation**:

- Monitor and record process conditions to ensure specified parameters and KPI’s are maintained.
- Log data such as Kappa numbers, temperatures, pressures, and chemical charges.
- Quickly adjust process variables to handle urgent issues and restore optimal performance.
- Direct field operators as needed for troubleshooting or needed actions.

**Role Requirements**
- High School Grade 12 Diploma required.
- Pulp and Paper Technician certification an asset; required to obtain within 4 years of hire.
- Experience in a pulp mill environment an asset.
- Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry/Trade certificate is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking and logical problem-solving abilities.

**Other**
- Complete Al-Pac specific training that includes physical, technical, and critical thinking components to ensure safe operation.
- Demonstrate competency in five field positions before advancing to two panel roles.
- Ability to be a critical thinker, analyzing situations and using logic to address issues.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and basic knowledge of root cause analysis.
- Mechanical aptitude beneficial for solving field issues.
- Capable of reading and understanding complex instructions.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Self-motivated, continuous learner focused on procedural and process improvements; desire to learn new areas and face new challenges.
- Confident working under pressure, managing changing priorities and deadlines, and adapting to change.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, multitask, and troubleshoot.
