- $23.93 - $28.72 Per hour*

- The Ministry of Natural Resources, Northeastern, Northwestern and Southern Biodiversity and Monitoring Sections are currently seeking individuals on a short-term basis to organize and carry out technical aspects of forestry and wildlife monitoring programs across the province. **Temporary assignments/contracts for up to 16 weeks, with the possibility of extension, throughout Ontario**:
Northwest Region (Thunder Bay): 6-8 positions
Northeast Region (Timmins): 6-8 positions
Southern Region (North Bay): 6-8 positions

In this role, you will:

- monitor Ontario's terrestrial ecosystems using various sampling methodologies and techniques
- assist with, and conduct surveys while exercising data management skills and adhering to ministry and safety policies
- work outdoors in teams of two or more, often travelling to remote locations and/or operating all-terrain vehicles, boats and motors

**What you bring to the team**:
**Mandatory requirements**:

- You possess, or have the ability to complete Standard First Aid and CPR training.
- You are willing and able to work weekends and holidays, when required, and to work in remote locations for up to 10 days.
- You are legally entitled to work in Canada and are also required to have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN).

**Technical knowledge**:

- You have knowledge of forestry and wildlife sampling equipment and procedures.
- You are familiar with identifying trees, plant species, forest pests, amphibians, mammals and soil classifications.
- You have the ability to operate digital equipment (e.g., tablets, tree measuring devices, trail cameras etc.)
- You have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

**Field work**:

- You have the ability to undertake fieldwork in remote locations, working in inclement weather conditions, lifting, and carrying heavy objects (backpacks with survey gear), hiking long distances over difficult terrain, and camping.
- You have the ability to navigate the forest to designated sampling plots using a compass, GPS and maps.

**General essential skills**:

- You have interpersonal and communication skills to interact with the public and landowners.
- You possess problem-solving skills to troubleshoot operational field activities.
- You have the ability to stay focused while performing repetitive tasks.
- You have organizational skills and attention to detail.
