**Chief responsibilities of this position includes**:

- Under the guidance of Speech and Language Pathologists, implement communication programs with individual children.
- within a school, work with individual children through small group or individual treatment.
- Assist with classroom observations and/or group therapy sessions.
- Record data, record screening and charting regarding children’s progress.
- Prepare communication books/boards and other therapy materials.
- Demonstrate knowledge associated with the implementation of low or mid-tech devices or other augmentative communication tools.
- Material planning and preparations including selection and preparation of activities and/or communication tools.
- Provide clerical support such as photocopying, filming, and typing.
- Attend team and resource meetings.
- Attend parent/teacher meetings if designated by the SLP. The assistant should report to the team on the child’s status in the absence of the SLP.
- Inventory and equipment maintenance; yearly inventory of SLP equipment (switches, toys etc.)
- Access to filing with attention to confidentiality, maintenance of digital and paper files, and archiving of documents.
- Order equipment as requested by the SLP.
- Identify equipment for repair.
- Maintain SLP equipment such as switches, environmental control units, speech output devices, iPads, and other systems.
- Attend in-services, rounds, and relevant courses to maintain and upgrade knowledge and skills.
- Engage with interdisciplinary team matters in a professional and targeted fashion
- Refer treatment questions and concerns to SLP.
- Assist the SLP with his/her duties as requested.

**Education and Experience**
- SLPA Diploma, Communication Disorders Diploma, or related training
- Related direct experience with a special needs non-verbal population
- Experience with computers and computer maintenance
- Experience working as part of a collaborative rehabilitation team is an asset
- American Sign Language and Augmentative Communication Devices
- MANDT Systems or Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training, or equivalent
- Strong personal skills required
- May be required to travel between two facilities located in west Edmonton.
