**Student Support and Retention Worker **(Revised)**

**Start Date: As Soon As Possible**

**Salary Range: $48,622.76 to $65,783.74**

**Location: MITT Adult Learning Centres**

**35 Hours per week (varying schedule)**

Under the direction of the Education Director, the Student Support and Retention Worker is an on-campus position that helps students to achieve their academic and employment goals by supporting students to overcome temporary obstacles. The Student Support and Retention Officer provides students with social support by listening, mentoring, and offering suggestions for resources, as well as directly providing pathway supports to complete academic, and career goals while in the program.

**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

- This role will support all MITT ALC sites, but primarily Garden City, Elmwood, Erin Campus and the UFCW Training Centre site. Serve as member of an interdisciplinary team of instructors and employer representatives working with students.
- Participates in the recruitment, selection and admission of students to the Adult Learning Centres programs at MITT.
- Communicates with MITT to select and transition students into ALC Programming.
- Collaborates with MITT ALC team on the coordination of the program ‘Open House’, ‘Orientation’ and ‘Information Session’ activities.
- Coordinates, schedules and participates in participant interviews (with the ALC leadership team).
- Organizes and maintains accurate and up-to-date confidential student files and case records, program files and administrative records as required.
- During programming: meets with students on an ongoing basis to assess their progress, give support and provide referrals to social service agencies for additional resources as required.
- Promotes work-ready behaviours and addresses absenteeism by using appropriate administrative processes.
- Works in consultation with the MITT ALC team to review and address student needs when in classes, and identify options to support student success and goal attainment.
- Maintains a network of community resources and personal support service providers for students during and post-education.
- Continues to connect with students on a regular basis while students are in programming to address any transition support needs.
- Works collaboratively with MITT staff to provide optimal support to participants as they transition to employment or post-secondary programming.
- Provides ongoing continuous support to the learners from program entry through their first six weeks of employment or post-secondary programming, serving as an additional resource to ensure student success.
- Records and provides documentation of best practices achieved within the scope of the project in the spirit of continuous improvement, and makes recommendations regarding program sustainability.

**Required Qualifications and Experience**:

- A combination of related education and experience may be considered._
- Bachelor of Social Work Degree; or other post-secondary degree or certificate in the social sciences or social work with a combination of relevant experience relevant experience.
- Experience working in a social support environment for adult learners is an asset.
- Experience supporting at-risk clients (preferred 1-year experience)
