Summary:
The Registered Practical Nurse assists in the co-ordination of total nursing care for an assigned group of patients. The RPN works as a member of the multidisciplinary team while maintaining standards for professional nursing practice within the clinical setting. '

**Responsibilities**:
The RPN assists in providing a safe patient environment for youth experiencing mental health issues. Working with families is an essential part of this role. Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Qualifications:

- Recognized health discipline - RPN with certificate of competence with College of Nurses of Ontario
- Post diploma in Psychiatric Nursing preferred
- Courses in Humanities and Behavioural Sciences, mandatory
- Three years experience in psychiatric nursing required
- Experience in working collaboratively in multidisciplinary setting
- BCLS/ Heart saver
- De-escalation and Code White training preferred
- Completion of recognized medication course preferred
- Knowledge of mental illness, suicide risk assessments and current mental health practices and treatment modalities as they relate to Child & Adolescent population
- Demonstrated capacity in managing the behavior of children & adolescents required.
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Using preset standards and protocols and within their RPN scope of practice, possesses ability to assess, plan, intervene and evaluate individuals with psychiatric disorders
- Excellent working knowledge of the Mental Health Act & the Health Care Consent Act and other relevant legislation
- Excellent patient teaching skills
- Application of Family Systems Nursing in the provision of direct patient family care
Good attendance record
