**_DEFINITION:_** - Under the direction of a Roads Foreman; Working Foreman-Environmental Health or; Environmental Health Technicians, maintains, installs and repairs municipal services and equipment and operates and maintains the Sewage Treatment Plant, water treatment systems and associated pumping facilities._ **_ EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:_** - _ Maintains, installs and repairs municipal services and equipment, including fire hydrants, valves, service laterals, meters, associated piping and other equipment related to water distribution;_ - Maintains, installs and repairs municipal services and equipment, including lift stations, manholes, sanitary mains, service laterals and other equipment related to wastewater collection; - Inspects, maintains, repairs and installs equipment related to water production, treatment and delivery, (equipment includes, but is not limited to, reservoirs, wells, intakes, pumps, injectors, monitoring equipment, pressure reducing valves, generators, air valves, check valves); - Inspects, maintains, repairs and installs equipment related to wastewater treatment and discharge (equipment includes, but is not limited to, pumps, grinders, screens, aeration systems, lagoon, outfalls and controls); - Perform routine water and wastewater analysis to monitor levels of chlorine, fluoride, bacteria, etc., in the City's water system and Sewage Treatment Plant, and assist with more complicated testing; - Monitor and analyse information from municipal SCADA systems; - Prepare and maintain daily operational records and reports related to the function; - Preform other duties, as qualified, relating to the operations of the Public Works Department including, but not limited to snow removal, drainage system repairs and maintenance, and road and sidewalk repairs; - Emergency call outs and shift work may be required; - Other duties, as required. **MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE** - _ Secondary school graduation; _ - Minimum of one year's related experience; - EOCP "Operator in Training" certification in Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment, or Wastewater Collection; - Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment; - A good understanding of municipal infrastructure; - Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labour; - Good working knowledge of WorkSafeBC Regulations, as relates to the work involved; - First Aid training; - Mechanical aptitude and ability to make repairs to pumping and mechanical equipment; - Ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations; - Good working knowledge of chemicals handled on the job; - Attention to detail and accuracy in recording data and maintaining records; - Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public; - Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments; - Valid Class 3 B.C.
