We are seeking a **reliable and compassionate person** to provide after-school respite care for a remarkable 14-year-old boy with multiple physical and cognitive disabilities, including behaviours associated with autism.
Despite his challenges, he demonstrates many strengths—such as strong visual skills, a sense of humour, digital learning aptitude, reading ability, and a warm, loving nature.
This **one-on-one care position** is based in a private household **downtown Brampton**
**Schedule**
- **Hours**: 2:40 p.m. - 5:20 p.m. (bus pickup included)
- **Days**: Minimum 3 afternoons per week (with flexibility for additional hours as needed)
- **Contract Duration**: September 2025 - June 2026 (Option to extend)
- **Compensation**: $25/hour (invoiced bi-weekly)

**Key Responsibilities**
- **Supervision & Safety**: Ensure constant supervision and a safe environment.
- **Engagement & Development**: Encourage cognitive, social, and physical growth through play-based learning and structured activities.
- **Activity Support**: Use parent-provided resources to plan activities and reinforce daily routines.
- **Life Skills & Independence**: Support communication, social interaction, and independence-building skills.
- **Physical Activity & Outings**: Facilitate activities such as swimming, walks, or library visits.
- **Mealtime Support**: Serve snacks/meals and encourage healthy habits.
- **Screen Time Management**: Monitor and limit screen use (familiarity with Nintendo Switch is an asset).
- **Medical Support**: Administer daily medication (4:30 p.m.), ensure EpiPen availability, and provide first aid as required.
- **Communication & Documentation**: Provide updates to parents (text/phone) and a brief daily log.
- **Household Support**: Ensure tidy clean-up after activities and meals.
**Minimum Qualifications**
- Minimum **2 years of local experience** working directly with children/adolescents with special needs.
- Strong English communication skills (to support language development).
- Commitment to consistent availability during the school year (interest in summer hours is an asset).
- Consideration will also be given to applicants with **direct experience** supporting individuals with disabilities.
- A current vulnerable sector police check or the capacity to obtain one prior to the start of the contract.
- Familiarity with or interest in learning more about Nintendo Switch gaming is an asset
