The Squamish Nation’s Yúustway Health & Wellness Department is seeking a Peer Worker, a valued member of our community-based interdisciplinary team who supports Nation Members on their healing journeys using a harm reduction lens. This role is grounded in safety, respect, empowerment, and Indigenous Cultural Safety.
If you are reliable, relatable, emotionally intelligent, and passionate about helping others, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the Squamish Valley and occasionally on the North Shore.
** What You’ll Do**:
- Provide harm reduction education, engagement and outreach to Nation Members in the Squamish Valley and sometimes North/West Vancouver.
- Attend community days and events (e.g., Income Assistance pick-up, Distribution Benefit pick-up, wellness days) to distribute supplies such as Naloxone kits and share harm reduction information.
- Collaborate with Members, their families, Elder Advisors, and partners to support healing, wellness, treatment navigation, and harm reduction goals.
- Support the coordination, facilitation and referral of community-based harm reduction workshops and training (e.g., Naloxone training).
- Engage peers to understand their needs and bring feedback forward to help shape programming and services.
- Provide weekly outreach to Members, including those who are more difficult to reach, using low barrier, creative approaches.
- Maintain effective working relationships with partners.
- Maintain accurate files and ensure confidentiality is strictly protected.
- Attend CHW team meetings and participate in relevant committees.
- Communicate regularly with supervisor, reporting challenges, barriers, service gaps and areas for program development.
** What We’re Looking For**:
- Lived or living experience with substance use or mental health is essential.
- Experience supporting adults in a harm reduction capacity.
- Experience in a First Nations community.
- Familiarity with harm reduction models, community wellness programs, and interdisciplinary health teams.
- Strong interpersonal and listening skills.
- Comfortable engaging community members regularly (including difficult-to-reach individuals).
- High emotional intelligence, patience, integrity and boundary-setting skills.
- Understanding of Indigenous Cultural Safety or willingness to take required training.
- Ability to stay composed in high-pressure situations and respond appropriately to community needs.
- Team-oriented with a positive, approachable attitude and strong communication abilities.
- Cultural awareness and deep respect for Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw values, language, and traditions.
- A valid BC Driver’s License Class 4 or 5 Class

** Salary**: $47,000 - $66,000 annually
