**About Us**
Den 1880 is a boutique coworking and event space in Uptown Waterloo. We host everything from corporate meetings and creative workshops to private parties, concerts, and comedy shows. Our team is passionate about creating meaningful, well-run events in a space that’s as beautiful as it is functional.
**The Role**
We’re looking for personable and motivated Events & Hospitality Team Members to join our growing crew at Den 1880. This is more than just a role—it’s an opportunity to grow with us. As part of our hospitality team, you’ll help set the tone for unforgettable events by greeting guests, assisting with setup and teardown, resetting the space, and stepping in to bartend when needed. You’ll be the face of Den 1880 during events, making sure every guest feels welcome and everything runs smoothly.
This is a flexible, fast-paced role that requires physical stamina, a sharp eye for detail, and strong communication skills. Experience in bartending or hospitality is an asset, but what matters most is your attitude. We’re looking for people who take initiative, show up with energy and professionalism, and are excited about the chance to grow within our team.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Event & Venue Support**
- Greet and assist guests and event attendees with a friendly, polished presence
- Act as an ambassador of Den 1880, helping guests feel welcome and informed
- Assist in setting up and preparing event spaces based on specific needs
- Support a wide range of events including everything from corporate meetings and panels to comedy shows, concerts, and private parties
- Set up and maintain coffee, tea, and refreshment stations for events and meetings
- Provide high-level hospitality and bartending services (SmartServe required)
- Occasionally assist with table service during seated events or private functions
- Maintain a clean and organized bar area; restock as needed
- Clear glassware, dishes, and clean up after guests during and after events
- Work closely with the Event Manager and vendors to ensure seamless execution
- Jump in wherever needed to support event success. Each event is different, and flexibility is key
- Reset furniture and clean the space post-event to ensure it’s ready for the next booking
- Make offsite supply runs for events (e.g., groceries, ice, bar stock)
- Lift and move furniture, equipment, and supplies (up to 50 lbs)
**General Venue Operations**
- Open and close the venue following established procedures
- Monitor the space during your shift to ensure cleanliness, order, and guest comfort
- Assist with basic guest needs, such as Wi-Fi troubleshooting or locating meeting rooms
- Direct inquiries to the appropriate departments (sales, events, management)
- Follow all SmartServe requirements and ensure the safety and well-being of guests and members
- Take initiative to complete day-of tasks and ensure the venue is operating smoothly without constant supervision
**Qualifications**
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently and taking initiative to complete tasks
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, people-focused environment
- Experience in events, hospitality, or customer service is a strong asset
- SmartServe certification (required); bartending, hosting or serving experience preferred
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and irregular shifts
- Eagerness to grow and contribute to a collaborative, hospitality-driven workplace
**Benefits**
- $22/hour plus gratuities earned during events
- Flexible schedule and shift variety
- Opportunities for professional growth and development
- Access to our coworking space and community events
- On-the-job training and support from a friendly and collaborative team
