**RECREATIONAL AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM**

**WORK TITLE**

**Recreational Afterschool Child Care Worker**

**Position Summary**:
**To provide for the full inclusion of children requiring support with Better Beginnings Better Futures Afterschool Program settings while functioning as a compatible member of the ASP team (parents, primary care providers, replacement staff, support staff, office staff, director, etc ).**

**Target population**:
Children aged 4 to 13 years old

**Direct service**:
Duties and responsibilities:

- Lead, support, and assist children for maximum benefit, to participate in play and creative activities from the childcare program.
- Assist in planning and implementation of the child care activities thus ensuring the support program functions as a cooperative integrated component of the childcare setting.
- Prepare and serve a healthy snack consisting of 2 of the 4 food groups and for breakfast, 3 of the 4 food groups according to the healthy food guidelines from the Ministry of Health, and to also promote good hygiene and clothing care.
- Collaborate and consult with the team.
- Assist in maintaining daily logs, children’s registrations, monthly reports, fiscal reporting and ensuring that these are handed in, in a timely manner.
- Welcome parents and community members to the centre and inform them of any activities involving Better Beginnings Better Futures.
- Report to the program managers as required.
- All forms must be filled out in accordance with the policies and procedures of Better Beginnings Better Futures (incident reports, discipline reports, replacement worker evaluations etc )
- Dispense medications as required in accordance with existing Better Beginnings Better Futures policies and procedures.
- Able lift 25kg, push, pull, squat, bend at waist, and twist to ensure the effectiveness of the physical aspect of the work, ex: grocery shopping, packing of food items, distribution of grocery bags. Etc...
- Report to the Manager of Family and Youth Program or the Executive Director

**Indirect service**:

- Adhere to confidentiality policies.
- Maintain a positive, professional, non-judgmental attitude.
- Participate in available educational opportunities and maintain up to date certificates, ie. CPR, WHMIS, CPIC etc.
- Ensure program planning ie. Weekly menus and activities are planned one week in advance.
- Any safety issues should be immediately reported to your program manager or executive director.
- If the childcare worker should suspect child abuse, they must report it immediately to Child Protective Services.
- Keep balanced petty cash and hand in on time as required and/or requested.
- Ensure that time sheets are filled out and handed in every second Friday (Thursday during the summer months)
- As a team, participate in mandatory fire drills, (3 - March, July, and November) and monthly silent fire drills, recommended by the Fire Marshall of Greater Sudbury Fire Services. Ensure all forms are completed and handed in promptly.
- Attend site meetings and staff meetings as required.
- Ensure a clean environment at all times (sweep, wash dishes, dust, etc )
- Other duties as requested.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: $18.00-$19.00 per hour
