Recreation Team Leader

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has openings for Recreation Team Leader - Camp for the summer of 2025. These positions will start approximately June 30, 2025 for a period up to August 30, 2025 and can work up to 45 hours a week.
To qualify for this summer student position, students must currently be enrolled in school full-time for the 2024/2025 winter term (normally ending April, May or June) and/or returning to school full-time in the 2025 fall term (normally starting in August or September).
The Recreation Team Leader - Camp position is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating a high-quality summer children’s camp program for registered participants. In addition, summer camp Team Leaders will be required to actively supervise all program activities including lunch.
**Essential responsibilities**
- Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
- Lead a team of students in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
- Ensure staff team is actively engaged in all aspects of program planning, set-up, conducting activities and actively participating in activities including swimming, clean-up and evaluation
- Act as a resource and support for staff in areas where development is required
- Follow policies and procedures in place relevant to the position
- Communicate with parents as required
- May be required to modify activities to ensure age appropriateness
- Will be required to take the lead on managing participant behaviours
- Coordinate the planning, implementation and evaluation of one summer camp program within a specific community
- Daily activities generally include:
- Active Games
- Arts and Crafts
- Drama Activities
- Fitness Breaks
- Swimming/ Water Play
- Implement the philosophies of HIGH FIVE
- Coordinate all administrative duties for their specific site
**Essential Qualifications**
- Preference will be given to those enrolled in first year or above in post-secondary education in a recreation or child and youth related program, and one or more years of experience in the field of program planning
- Because of the responsibilities of the program for Camp Team Leaders, applicants must be 16 years of age or older to apply
- Previous experience working as a Camp Leader (or other similar camp environment), working with children 4 years of age or older (preferably in a recreation program environment)
- Because program numbers at each camp may fluctuate from week to week, students may be required to work at various program sites throughout the municipality during the summer
**Certifications/memberships/licenses**
- Current Certification in Standard First Aid/CPR (WSIB approved) prior to camps opening
- Certified with the High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development prior to camps opening
**Driver’s license/vehicle requirements**
Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred.

- This position works weekday, with occasional weekend hours
**Essential physical and/or safety requirements**
- Bending: frequent stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, squatting (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (kneeling, crouching, squatting while communicating with children; bending while preparing for activities; bending while cleaning up activities; bending while packing up materials)
- Walking: frequent walking on rough surface; constant walking on level surface (walking throughout duration of program at program facility/park; walking on field trips)
- Reaching: frequent reaching above shoulder, below shoulder, forward, backward, handling (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (reaching for program material for program set-up/ take down; lifting participants in cases of emergencies)
- Lifting: frequent lifting at shoulder, carrying, transferring; constant lifting floor to waist, waist to shoulder (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (lifting program material for program set-up/ take down; lifting participants in case of emergencies; lifting while cleaning after activities)
- Standing: frequent standing inside, outside (standing while delivering programs; standing while preparing for activities; standing while cleaning)
- Hands: frequent fine finger dexterity (movement) (using hands to deliver programming; using hands for daily administrative tasks (filling in reports, attendance, log books, etc.)
**Benefits**
This summer student position has an hourly wage of $18.00 to $18.54 and will receive vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act.
