**KEY FUNCTION**:
Work collaboratively with Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician to ensure safe medication distribution according to the standards and guidelines of the Ontario College of Pharmacists.

**REPORTING**:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Pharmacy Operations.

**DUTIES**:

- Assist with the preparation and dispensing of medication for inpatients and outpatients.
- Assist with sterile/non
- sterile compounding.
- Utilize and ensure functionality of packaging automation (e.g. Swisslog Pillpicker, ARxium FastPak, etc.) to package medications into unit doses.
- Receive, sort and put away medications in appropriate areas of the pharmacy.
- Check stock for expiry dates to identify beyond use dated medications to be returned and/or destroyed.
- Order, receive and sort pharmaceutical supplies as required.
- Maintain department work areas by ensuring tidiness.
- Operate cash register and handle medication transactions for the outpatient pharmacy.
- Deliver or send medications to the appropriate units using the pneumatic tube system.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**EDUCATION AND TRAINING**:

- Minimum of a graduate from a Pharmacy Assistant program or a relevant Health Care program from an accredited college.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

**EXPERIENCE**:

- Three (3) years’ experience in a retail/hospital pharmacy setting is preferred.
- Additional health care experience is preferred.

**KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES**:

- Demonstrated experience in unit dose medication distribution system.
- Demonstrated excellent judgment and proven analytical skills.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.

**PERSONAL SUITABILITY**:
