**GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY**
This position is accountable for the provision of support to the Town Manager and/or Town Council in accordance with policies and guidelines determined by Council under the provisions of the _**Municipalities Act, 1999**_**.**
**STRUCTURE**
The position of Maintenance Employee reports directly to the Town Manager. The Maintenance Employee provides general maintenance duties, inspections and tests as required, by Town Manager and/or other regulatory agencies. The Maintenance Employee is responsible for completing reports and daily logs, as required by the Town.
**NATURE AND SCOPE**
The Maintenance Employee is responsible for providing support to the Town of Steady Brook in the general maintenance of the Town's infrastructure, equipment, vehicles, water systems, and provides support to the Town's programs and services.
The Maintenance Employee shall deal with residents and the general public. Professionalism must be ensured, as well as ensuring prompt and satisfactory resolutions, as directed. Meetings may be required with developers and residents, as determined.
**RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES**
The Maintenance Employee is also responsible for:
1. Maintain and provide records of all related water activities, vehicle inspections, water testing, etc., as required.
2. Be available for Town emergencies, unless prior arrangements are approved by the Town Manager and /or Council. These emergencies can be either maintenance or otherwise.
3. Attend regular Council meetings and Special meetings as requested by Town Manager and/or Council. If unable to attend give input on agenda items to the Town Manager and/or Town Clerk, prior to meeting.
4. Be responsible for proper maintenance of **all **Town equipment.
5. Be responsible for maintenance of the Town playground and parks and perform regular inspections.
6. Be responsible for **all** Town buildings; including cleaning, painting, regular inspections, general maintenance, and minor electrical repairs, as agreed upon.
7. Be responsible for regular maintenance and repair of the Town's water and chlorination systems. Ensure that **regular**checks and inspections are completed.
8. Be responsible for daily mandatory water testing and maintain proper records.
9. Be responsible for road maintenance within the Town.
10. Be responsible for maintenance of the Town water system, fire hydrants and any other related equipment.
11. Be responsible for garbage collection on a weekly basis, and during other times as determined by Council.
12. Be responsible to help install curb stops and sewage connections for new developments. To provide underground inspections required for water and sewer connections, as required.
**MAJOR CHALLENGES**
The Maintenance Employee faces challenges in accountability for the health and safety of the general public, residents, staff, volunteers, and all others. The Maintenance Employee is accountable for maintaining accurate and up to date records for the following:
- water and sewer system maintenance, inspection, and testing.
- vehicle maintenance and inspection.
- equipment and facility maintenance and inspection.
- life safety equipment.
- general safety of the public, residents, staff, volunteers, and all others.
**SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES**
1. Report any unauthorized work or construction to the Town Office. Issue 'stop work orders' as directed.
2. The Maintenance Employee must have a drivers license with a clean drivers abstract.
3. Maintenance Employee to ensure his/her scheduled work is being completed in a timely fashion. Ensure that daily tasking is clear, and items are completed as required.
4. Be responsible for ensuring that employees (_if_ under their supervision as directed by Town Manager and/or Town Council) follow the Town's health and safety policies, and that all work is done using safe work practices and procedures. Be accountable for the health and safety of employees under their supervision as directed.
5. Be responsible for ensuring that all tools and equipment are kept in good repair and ensure that employees (if under their supervision as directed by Town Manager and/or Town Council) wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
6. Be responsible to follow the Town's work-related policies, as outlined in the Employee Policy Manual.
7. Other duties as agreed to by the Town Manager and/or the Town Council.
**GENERAL WORKING CONDITIONS**
1. _**Time clock must always be used. **_The Town does reserve the right to require proper verification of timecards to the satisfaction of the Town Manager and/or Town Council.
