The Annex is a standout bar and restaurant in the seaside town of Inverness, Nova Scotia. A gem set in an unbeatable location The Annex overlooks Inverness Harbour and Cabot Links golf course with stunning sunset views of the Northumberland Strait. Our team aims to become a destination dining experience for folks throughout the Maritimes. The Annex makes delicious scratch food that highlights local products in novel, creative ways, leaving guests with a smile and a swoon. Our Dining Room seats 38, with bar seating for an additional 11. Our Deck will offer the dining room menu to an additional 20 seats, with drinks available to the remaining 50 seats. Finally, this summer our fully-licensed Lawn will feature fare from the grill, offering patrons a “grab and go” option for quick bites. The property is an opportunity to highlight the "best of" the area, through food and drink, music performances, and the stunning natural beauty of the land. The restaurant is a warm, welcoming space with a focus on quality carrying throughout. The restaurant is looking to fill the position of Bartender at The Annex. This role is a pivotal member of the front of house team and will contribute significantly to guests’ experience and the overall atmosphere at The Annex. We are hiring for multiple bartender roles, from full-season (May-October) to summer hires (July - August). Inverness, Nova Scotia is a rural town of about 1,300 people on the west coast of Cape Breton Island. A vibrant summertime destination for many, the area hosts gorgeous sandy beaches with the warmest Atlantic waters north of the Carolinas, innumerable hiking trails, a strong home-grown music culture, and is home to the globally-ranked golf courses of Cabot Cape Breton. In winter, the area quiets down significantly, making time for community building, sitting by the fire, card playing, and winter-sports (including over 1000km of snowmobiling trails). **Responsibilities**: - Provide high-quality, timely, and friendly service to guests - Mix and serve drinks following set standard recipes for both classic and in-house cocktails - Adhere to all local and national liquor laws - Process cash and credit card transactions following appropriate procedures - Assist with inventory and inventory control behind the bar - Maintain an organized, prepared, and clean work area - Maintain a safe and clean environment for guests and team - Carry out all tasks with attention to detail, cleanliness, and safety **Qualifications/Skills**: - Gregarious personality with strong customer service and interpersonal skills are a must - Flexible personality embracing the “all hands on deck” attitude needed from all employees in a new small business - Demonstrated knowledge of classic cocktails and drink-making practices - Ongoing awareness of beverage and drink-making trends - Understanding of health and sanitations laws - Ability to handle multiple tasks at once - Applied wine and beverage knowledge - Basic mathematical skills - Basic computer skills - Must be at least 19 years old - Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time - Ability to lift up to 50 lbs **Work Hours & Benefits**: All positions participate in restaurant’s tip pool Guaranteed two successive days off a week We aim for an 8-hour workday schedule Vacation pay, overtime pay Training and certification opportunities Opportunity for Health Care benefits **Education and Experience Requirements**: - At least two years’ bartending experience in high-volume environments is an asset - Nova Scotia Serve Right certification preferred of classic cocktails with a passion for innovative drink making. They will be an efficient operator who enjoys a busy atmosphere and can bring their best self to a demanding environment.
