**American Sign Language (ASL) - English Interpreter**

**Arthur Day Middle School Part-time term position (6 hours per day)**
**Effective February 10/23 - June 30/23**

**Job Summary**: To facilitate learning and communication among students and others who are deaf and hard of hearing in an educational setting. Works under the direction of the school principal in collaboration with the resource teacher regarding student educational program expectations.

**Duties may include**:

- Providing classroom interpreting, platform interpreting and one to one or small group interpreting
- Assisting in the development, delivery, and assessment of academic and ASL instructional programs, as specified in the student’s IEP
- Attending meetings with clinicians, classroom and/or resource personnel, parents to obtain and/or provide information on the academic and behavioral modification requirements of students
- Checking and troubleshooting student amplification equipment
- Maintaining detailed records of student progress and behaviour
- Supervising students as required (may include bus and lunch duty)

**Qualifications**:

- Graduate of a recognized accredited college or university program in ASL-English Sign Language Interpretation
- Ability to work as a team member with excellent interpersonal skills
- Thorough understanding of the language implications in the education of students who are deaf and hard of hearing
- Must be knowledgeable of the basic principles of educational practices, the function of student services and the role of interpreters as part of an educational team
- Previous experience, specifically within a classroom setting, would be an asset
