**Position Summary**:.
Reporting to the Services Director, the Team Cook #2 is responsible for preparing and plating meals, ensuring that the quality and services being delivered meet the nutritional and dining needs of the residents in accordance with the high standards of the organization. This includes but is not limited to offering outstanding service, creative, nutritional, diverse, and flexible menus made with high-quality fresh ingredients and appetizingly presented to meet and exceed resident’s and their family’s expectations within an interdisciplinary, resident-focused team, consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of One Kenton Place.
**Responsibilities**:
- Prepare, season, and cook food as directed, meeting dietary requirements where required.
- Follow recipes, ensuring meals are attractive, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is timely.
- Assists with the preparation of food for special functions.
- Assist in the development of unique dining programs for cognitively impaired residents.
- Familiarizes self with the specific needs of each client, e.g., diet restrictions, allergies, and special requests/accommodations.
- Create and implement nutritional and diverse seasonal menus.
- Adhere to all Kosher food requirements.
- Have experience working in a fast-paced environment preparing large batch cooking
- Be excited about the opportunity of preparing a wide variety of nutritious meals that rotate daily.
- Have familiarity with cooking and baking from scratch.
- Display a caring and respectful attitude toward our residents, families, and team members, with an openness to receiving feedback and suggestions from our residents and family members.
- Visits dining rooms during mealtimes to monitor quality and acceptability of food.
- Monitors all procedures for resident meal service to ensure the required standards are maintained.
- Coordinate the purchase of food, supplies and equipment required, and conducts monthly food inventory.
- Ensure that optimal safety standards are maintained by all Food and Nutrition department employees.
- Understand the physical, mental, and emotional demands of the Chef’s role.
- Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Completion of required documentation, e.g., inventory counts, food and equipment temperature and cleaning checklists, security / lock-up checklists as required.
- Follows disposal procedures according to established waste management guidelines for organics, paper, plastics, cans/bottles, non-recyclable material, etc.
- Clean and maintain kitchen and appliances meeting established standards for cleanliness and sanitation.
- Current provincial Safe Food Handling Certificate
- Red Seal designation is considered an asset
- Current membership in the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management (C.S.N.M.) is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education in dietary management and the successful completion of a recognized Food Services Program.
- Previous professional experience working with seniors in Retirement, Long-Term Care, or in a health care setting is considered an asset.
- Proficient Computer skills.
- Experience in large quantity food preparation.
- Demonstrate organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Solid knowledge of basic therapeutic nutrition as it relates to the needs of the home’s resident population.
- Time Management skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Must be flexible and willing to respond to the needs of others.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be physically able to lift and transfer heavy, hot items, and stand for the majority of the shift.
- Experience with Kosher food preparation and guidelines is considered an asset.
- Must be currently living and eligible to work in Canada.
**Dress Requirements**:
- Clean, washable uniform (will be provided).
- Serviceable, closed-toe shoes.
- Minimum amount of jewelry.
- No nail polish permitted.
