The Institute of Health Economics is recruiting a Principal Health Economist to provide leadership on projects in our portfolio of health economics work, including our growing digital health and mental health work program.
The Principal Health Economist designs and conducts analysis, leads project teams, and acts as a point of contact between the IHE and our stakeholders, including government, academia, professional societies, and other not
The IHE health economics work program works with government, university partners, nonprofits, and industry partners to answer applied research questions spanning health technology assessment, economic evaluation, decision analytic modelling and health policy analysis. **Roles and Responsibilities**:
- Developing proposals and work plans for the successful execution of commissioned work
- Application of decision analytical modelling methods for economic evaluation
- Analysis and interpretation of data and model results for presentation to a range of stakeholders
- Contributing to business development through drafting proposals for competitively funded research grants and for government and other project sponsors
- Potential for mentoring and coaching junior staff
- Project management of commissioned health economics projects
- Preparation of results for submission to peer-reviewed journals, reports to project funders, or in other formats as required
**Qualifications**:
- PhD or Masters level qualification in Health Economics or a closely related field
- A minimum of 3 (PhD) or 5 (Masters) years post-qualification experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong inter-personal skills are essential
- Evidence of successful working in a multidisciplinary team
- Problem solving skills and capacity to develop novel solutions
- Experience with health technology assessment, decision analytic modelling, cost-effectiveness analyses, or economic evaluations alongside clinical trials would be an asset
- Knowledge of Canadian health care systems and data would be an asset
- Interest/experience in economics of mental health and/or digital health interventions are highly valued
- Preference will be given to Canadian citizens and those with the right to work in Canada

**About the Institute of Health Economics**:
The IHE is a not-for-profit organization that assists decision-makers in health policy and practice with the results from economic evaluations, costing, organizational performance, and cost-effectiveness analyses, and with syntheses of findings from research in health technology assessment (HTA). We specialize in producing health economic evidence including decision analytic modelling, econometric analysis, HTA, and knowledge transfer/exchange.
The IHE’s core objectives are to:
- Support decision-making in health policy and practice with evidence from research in health economics and HTA;
- Assess the medical, economic, social, and ethical implications of both established and new health practices, procedures, and technologies; and
- Facilitate discussions and partnerships among government, academia, industry, and healthcare providers to address important issues in health care.
