Lab Tech

Lab Technician temporary, possibility of permanent (various work shifts: morning, afternoon, and night)

Your role:
As a laboratory technician you will be responsible for performing analysis on in-process and finished products and R&D samples to ensure specifications are met. Makes accept/reject decision on incoming raw materials and pre-shipment samples based on pre-established criteria. Places defective product on hold in accordance with procedures. Resolves and reports defect issues. Interacts with other departments to communicate testing results.

Your responsibilities:

- Monitor and report on mill process control (from wheat reception to milled flour) and finish product (bulk & pack) in compliance regarding quality and consistency of product. Deliver timely feedback to the lab manager and production.
- Proficiently perform analytical laboratory techniques using basic lab tools: scale and balance, micropipettes, desiccators, burettes, calculator, prepare solutions etc. Job requires certification, learning and using the following procedures and others as required: Falling Number, Farinograph, Alveolab, DON, NIR, granulation, wet chemistry (Leco, wet ash and wet moisture analyses). Needs to maintain monthly certification per company policy.
- Prepare and distribute Certificates of Analysis.
- Sample Collection and Handling: Accurately and skillfully collect, label, log, pack and ship samples to customers, other labs and other mills.
- Equipment, Laboratory Upkeep and 5s: Maintain the lab in an audit/visitor-ready condition. Keep analytical equipment and processes in control. Perform routine maintenance and calibration, as required.
- Basic quality documentation handling & archiving
- Other tasks to support the Quality & Food Safety department
- Possibility of becoming a full-time permanent position with some role changes.

Essential skills and experience:

- CEGEP or BS in Science field or equivalent work experience in a lab setting
- Great attention to detail
- Strong communications skills. An excellent knowledge of French (reading, writing and speaking) is required for this position.
- Ability to successfully multitask
- Computer Savvy including internet-based systems

Good to have:

- Very driven and looks/asks for additional tasks when duties are completed
- Can troubleshoot and help others troubleshoot issues

Physical requirements and working conditions (with or without reasonable accommodation):

- No known allergy to wheat products
- Able to carry samples up to 10 kg
- Use personal protective equipment
- Can work on all 3 shifts (day, evening, night) based on operational needs.
- Can be called in to work on weekends and holidays for operational needs.
