Regina, Canada MacKenzie Art Gallery Full time

**The Position**:
Reporting to the Head Curator, and in consultation with the Executive Director and CEO and Director of Programs, and in collaboration with other Gallery staff, develops exhibitions, publications, collections, and public programs to achieve the Mission, Vision and strategic objectives of the Gallery.

Assists with the coordination and development of the Permanent Collection and acquisition processes.

Responsible for the development, production and evaluation of research, exhibition, publications, and public program activities; upon approval of plans, researches, writes and prepares publications (including online formats and content).

Develops and maintains national and international networks of peers and colleagues; actively contributes to visitor engagement, audience development, partnerships, development and donor relations activities.

Nature of Work:
Reporting to the Head Curator, works collaboratively with all Gallery staff in a consultative manner to deliver dynamic, engaging, diverse, and innovative programs. The Curator must be knowledgeable in curatorial and administrative planning and best practices, and shares responsibility to ensure consistency of the MacKenzie Gallery program alignment with Mission and Vision, Strategic and Business plans, brand and visual identity, and how these documents are realized through all programs, visitor experience and engagement. This position must maintain exemplary relations with current and prospective donors to foster ongoing relationships in support of the Gallery. Working closely with the Executive Director and CEO, Director of Programs, Director of Development, Director of Finance and Operations and in collaboration with other Gallery staff and volunteers is also key to the success of this position.

1. **Exhibitions**: Cooperate and collaborate with other Gallery staff in the initiation, planning, implementation, and evaluation of exhibition-related programs and activities, with meaningful representation from Indigenous, Black, POC, disabled, 2SLGBTQ+ and other equity deserving groups (refer to strategic plan); Develop original ideas for exhibitions, programs and publications involving new methods for researching, experiencing, interpreting, presenting or understanding art and culture; Research potential exhibitions and programs by initiating contacts with community partners and stakeholders, including artists, curators, collectors, dealers, and others by keeping abreast of and contributing to current literature in the field; Propose new in-house exhibitions and programs with written and oral justifications for input by appropriate committees, and approval by the Director of Programs and the Executive Director and CEO.

2. **Processes & Collaboration**:Initiate and coordinate with the Executive Director and CEO, Director of Programs, and Head Curator the review and development of policy and procedures related to Collection Development and Acquisitions; Propose new acquisitions (donations and purchases) to the Acquisition Committee with oral and written justifications; Provide advice, assistance and expertise to Curator of Education, the Coordinator of Learning Initiatives, Programs Assistant, Curatorial Assistant, Development and Communications, and other Gallery staff, volunteers and committees.

4. **Funding**: Identify and cultivate funding sources; assist with proposals, reports, and correspondence; act as a steward for contributions with individuals, corporations, foundations and government sectors, working in concert with Development staff; and act as an ambassador for total development within the organizations; Maintain absolute discretion and confidentiality to protect the privacy of donors, partnerships and any other initiatives, activities or topics that are not authorized to be formally communicated to the public.

5. **Supervisory**; Provide training and supervision to Curatorial interns and Students, as and when required. Monitor progress and provide coaching as required.

6. **Accessibility and Equity**:Ability to promote equity and inclusion as core concepts in all actions and decisions affecting people, programs, and procedures.

**Qualifications - Education**: Requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in a related field.

**Qualifications - Experience**:

- Four years’ experience in a related position within a public art gallery or museum;
- Excellent knowledge of art gallery and museum procedures, art handling, and environmental standards, comfortable discussing issues affecting the arts today, knowledge of art, including specialist expertise in an established area of research, with a strategic priority towards Indigenous art and artists, and comfort and experience working with artists,curators and community stakeholders;
- Experience with equity and accessibility frameworks;
- Demonstrated knowledge of exhibition production and design;
- Experience with project management and delivery in a complex, dynamic environmen
