Communications and Scada Technician

**TransEd Valley line LRT is looking for a Communications and SCADA Technician to join their team of rail professionals. Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager the Communications and SCADA Technician will be responsible for the maintenance of equipment in passenger stations, the Maintenance and Storage Facility, and Traction Power substation buildings. This role must have the ability to embrace a dynamic working environment that promotes safety, service, quality, motivation and teamwork in a start-up environment.**
**Who we are**
TransEd Valley Line LRT is the first piece of the Valley Line project in Edmonton. Connecting Millwoods to downtown Edmonton, the valley line allows commuters to go from the South East of Edmonton to anywhere the LRT stops.
**A typical day for the Communications and SCADA Technician**
- Perform scheduled and preventative maintenance inspections and unscheduled designated repairs.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical systems to identify malfunctions.
- Troubleshoot equipment and operation of portable test equipment, testing devices and special tools towards execution of support activities
- Provide technical expertise for trouble shooting electrical problems on Signalling system, its associated equipment, and various devices.
- Provide coaching and guidance to other staff to heighten their abilities to inspect, maintain, repair equipment.
- Participate in the maintenance of some others asset (Ventilation, security assets, Pumps Switches etc.)
- Carry out all levels of examination and work arising involving the use of computerized Equipment/working manuals, shunting & Reformation exams.
- Undertake other duties related to the environment of the power assets or of Work as specified by the System Operations Manager in a safe manner.
- Report activities (work orders / inspections) through a computerized maintenance Management system CMMS and Tabs.
- Respect, clean and maintain their work environment.
- Work in collaboration with the Rail System Team in case of emergency or extreme weather (ice/snow) to maintain the line operation.
- Perform monitoring and updating of work orders.
- Execute HSE rules & procedures and ensure that work is performed in compliance with OH&S, CEC, CSA, BTAME, and customer’s regulations. Report immediately any deviation or incidents.
**What you will bring to the team**
- High school diploma, college degree or certification an asset.
- 2 to 4 years in a Traffic or LRT signalling environment, Railway, or related industry
- Certificate or license in related field. Capable of using computers and computer control systems, Capable of reading and understanding mechanical/electrical drawings, maintenance manuals and electrical schematics
- Previous experience within rail transit or rail transportation industry considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of Quality and Health & Safety standards
- Low Voltage certification is highly recommended.
- Knowledge of Rail / Vehicle environment is preferable.
- Highly motivated and flexible to work in a time-sensitive environment.
- Excellent communication skills and inter personnel skills.
- Demonstrated logical and analytical reasoning ability, and capable of making complex decisions.
- Ability to multi-task and analyse situations promptly and without bias to determine the proper course of action or alternatives with due regard to safety and efficiency.
- High level of safety awareness
- Demonstrate an ability to work efficiently in an unsupervised environment.
- Team spirit, supportive of team members
- Good judgement & effective in solving practical problems, responds quick, calmly, and appropriately to emergency situations.
- Demonstrate a strong health, safety, quality, and environmental mindset.
**The conditions you will be working with**
- 24/7 environment - Shift work will be required
- Exposed to all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
- Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, lefts, bends, and moves objects up to 50 pounds
- Exposed to loud noise
- Exposed to live tracks/trains and high voltage
