Color Supervisor

**POSITION PURPOSE**

The Colour Supervisor will be responsible for the continued development, implementation and maintenance of Image Engine's colour pipeline. They are responsible for defining the overall vision for current and future colour workflows, and will be the point person for all aspects of colour-based decision-making, from image ingestion, to the creation and maintenance of neutral grades, through final image delivery.

They will work closely with the Pipeline Support team, show-based Compositing Supervisors & CG Supervisors, driving conversations to ensure our colour pipeline operates in accordance with the VFX industry’s best practices, and remains consistent across all projects.

The Colour Supervisor is also responsible for future-focused colour decision making and education, ensuring Image Engine remains on the cutting edge of technology with regards to both software and hardware. They will strive to provide education and documentation to empower developers and artists across all disciplines to gain a deeper understanding of colour.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Be responsible for the creation and maintenance of technical and artistic/neutral grades for all shows.
- Work with the Pipeline Support team & Compositing Department Supervisor to develop best practices and promote consistency for colour decisions made at Image Engine.
- Encourage sensible and unbiased colour-science-based decision-making across departments and projects with competing requirements.
- Guide the technical development of new tools to assist in show setup & colour management, in conjunction with the Workflow and Development teams.
- Create new CDLs when required by our clients, to help them find a desired creative look.
- Be responsible for debugging colour issues flagged by Editorial and Delivery QC teams, and work with the Pipeline Support team to provide prompt solutions for resolving them.
- Aid in quality control of client sends (version zeros, vidouts, filmouts).
- Be responsible for the generation and maintenance of colour-based documentation.
- Be the point person for any colour-based education, levelling up the team as a whole.
- Look towards the future for what we can do better as the industry and technology changes.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- A minimum of 5 years experience working in a feature film or episodic post-production environment.
- Hands-on production experience developing an OCIO/ACES-based colour pipeline, from plate ingestion, through creating & managing working grades, and delivering final images.
- Prior experience translating a supplied technical specifications document
- A background in colour & imaging science.
- Supervisory experience is an asset.

**SKILLS AND ABILITIES**

**Technical skills**
- Expert-level knowledge of feature film, episodic & streaming colour pipelines.
- Expert-level knowledge of high-end digital cinema cameras; how they capture imagery and associated metadata from sensor through post-production workflows.
- Thorough understanding of OCIO, ACES, linear working colourspaces, gamut mapping, and how to implement bespoke colour workflows across multiple DCCs (primarily Nuke, Maya, Houdini, Arnold, Gaffer)
- Technical knowledge of Nuke, including how to interpret, create and modify CDLs & LUTs.
- Ability to clearly explain complex colour topics to Compositing Supervisors & show leadership teams.
- Excellent eye for detail and quality control.
- Python experience is an asset.
