Edmonton, Canada Extendicare Full time

Reporting to the Support Services Manager, the Cook prepares and serves meals. Cleans dining, cooking, storage, and serving areas, as well as equipment. Follows established policies, procedures and standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences. Observes time limits for meal serving. Maintains foods at proper serving temperature.
- Follows basic instructions in preparing simple foods such as breakfast items, basic desserts and garnishes.
- Reads and records food and fridge temperatures and ensures proper discarding of food as per the Public Health Guidelines
- Helps Dietary Aide with clearing of plates and trays, loads and operates dishwasher. Cleans pots, pans and cooking utensils as per procedure.
- Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
- Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
- Receives grocery orders and puts away the order of food supplies.
- Responsible for ensuring food storage room is clean and organized.
- Assemble nourishment carts.
- Participates in facility meetings as assigned. Attends in-service education programs.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Previous dietary experience preferred in LTC Home.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to read and write English as well as to understand verbal and written instructions in English.
- Ability to work weekends, days and evenings as per schedule
- Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
- Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting
- Must be able to work in cold temperatures
