**Position Title: Manager, Protection & Automation Application**
**Department**: Applications
**Reports to**: Director
**Overview**
**Position Responsibilities**
- Participate in protection related work, and coordinate and oversee work of P&A team which may include:
- RSCAD model developments (software models of P&A devices) that run on the RTDS main hardware
- Development of high-level software used in conjunction with P&A
- Model development that is handled within the FPGA
- Simulation support related to P&A and participating in training courses with P&A components
- Develop project charters for development projects including financial analyis and project budget
- Provide direction and support to team members to ensure projects are on track and meet customer deadlines. Projects may require working closely with members in Hardware and FPGA development.
- Responsible for conducting all performance reviews for members of P&A group, setting goals which may include creation and review of project charters, and recruitment and staffing activities to ensure the group is adequately staffed.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
Education:
- Electrical Engineering degree, or equivalent experience in the area of protection, automation & communication protocols.
- Specialization in electrical power systems preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in power systems/power electronics industry.
- Experience leading technical development projects involving a multidisciplinary team of engineers.
- Knowledge of power systems software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industry protocols, Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices.
- Knowledge of all protection related RTDS products is an asset.
- Experience with Power System protocols such as (IEC 61850, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-104, MODBUS, PMU)
- Experience in embedded software (FPGA) development is an asset.
- Experience with programs such as PSCAD, RSCAD, MATLAB, preferred.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Java, VHDL).
- Ability to travel.
- Strong people leadership, time/project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to provide clear direction, performance management, identify developmental needs and mentor employees.
