About Global Functions
HSBC’s Global Functions play a vital role in supporting the bank’s Global Businesses and offer a broad range of career opportunities in areas from Legal, Risk and Finance to Human Resources, Sustainability and Communications. Our operational and functional teams around the world help HSBC’s Global Businesses to operate efficiently and effectively on a day-to-day basis. They also focus on controls and governance to reduce risk and protect the Group’s reputations.
Global Finance plays a vital role in ensuring that HSBC manages costs and deploys capital in the most effective way. The team provides financial insight, accuracy and control, using analytical skills to support our Global Businesses and influence and challenge business decisions.
About the role:
- Oversight and execution of the data strategy for Finance Canada
- Review key programme deliverables (e.g. Basel 3 CDEs (Critical Data Elements), FotC (Finance on the Cloud) local data management, S166, Magnus (Regulatory data governance project), change requests, requirements gathering, review designs and data policies
- Act as an escalation point and help resolve significant risks, issues, change requests and dependencies pertaining to data in Finance.
- Function as a conduit to escalate and resolve issues, between the local/Regional Data Governance Council and Global Finance Data Forums
- Review key data quality issues impacting Canada Finance and agree actions/escalations with GB’s and local CDO (Chief Data Officer)
- Develop Data Management Literacy for Finance Canada
- Develop data governance policies for Finance, with ownership and periodical tracking
- Support BCBS 239 (Basel Committee on Banking Supervision), Project Magnus data remediation, S166 PRA (Prudential Regulatory Authority) data management, RREP (Regulatory Reporting Enhancement Programme) and other future Regulatory / Mandatory data lineage remediation programmes and ensure the entity is not exposed to any “Financial Reporting Risks” under the NFR taxonomy

- Collaborate, communicate and work effectively with team colleagues, Finance SMEs and ON/OFF shore teams and leads to deliver assigned projects at pace
- Customer 1st now - Putting the customers needs and expectations at the heart of all decision making and deliver fair outcomes to both our internal and external customers (Brilliant Basics)
Customers / Stakeholders
- Act as a Relationship Manager with key stakeholders and service providers to Finance (e.g. Global Finance Centres, Fin. Operations, IT, Business teams and other Global Businesses and functions)
- Actively participate, support and assist the HBCA Finance Change Program in achieving their objectives as well as other bank initiatives in support of Finance
- Assist in identifying and communicating relevant business and financial control issues, ensure all data adhere to established accounting principles and corporate procedures, and make appropriate recommendations to business managers.

Operational Effectiveness & Control
- Proactively determine, analyze and identify risks and issues and escalate them to the management team.
- Effective and simpler organizational structures for success - Delivery of critical Regulatory and Mandatory initiatives, by collaborating within and outside of Finance. Projects are delivered with optimal resourcing and budgets. (Brilliant Basics)
- Ensure that all employees are aware of and effectively identify and manage applicable Anti-money laundering (AML), terrorist financing (TF), sanctions and reputational risks related topics
Requirements
- Data strategy, Data management and Data governance experience in the Financial industry, with approx. 5 years’ experience
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, related field or equivalent experience, with qualified post-degree certification (CA, CPA, CGA, CMA, MBA, and CFA) or equivalent
- Minimum of five years proven and progress
