Social Worker

Acts as a resource and provides professional guidance, training, and expertise to departmental staff to support client interactions and client quality of life outcomes and help build capacity. Collaborates with community agencies/groups to exchange information and work on projects/initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of social work, social planning, psychosocial assessment, family systems, counselling, consultation, program development, adult education, and child development, acquired through a Master of Social Work degree, plus 2 years of post-Master’s clinical experience.
- Membership, or eligibility for membership with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers.
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, and related legislation (e.g., Ontario Works, privacy).
- Research, analytical, and organizational skills to design/develop training programs and resources; maintain community resources/supports; and work independently.
- Human relations, communication, de-escalation, client service, and facilitation skills to provide case conferencing support to departmental staff; facilitate individual and group training; develop programming and inter-agency collaboration; provide crisis intervention; adapt communication style so information is understandable and usable to clients and other staff; and participate as an effective team member.
- Ability to write clear, concise action plans, informal assessments, correspondence, training materials, and reports. Ability to read materials to keep knowledge current and conduct research.
- Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office and departmental/provincial information systems.
- Must provide an acceptable vulnerable sector police check.
- Ability to travel within Waterloo Region.
- Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
