SNP has formal partnerships with nine publicly funded Ontario Universities and Colleges and collaborates with six Ontario-based Indigenous owned and controlled post-secondary Institutes.
Function & Overview
Under the supervision of the Unit Manager - Health Services Unit, the Education Outreach Worker will engage with community members, potential and current learners and local service providers and organizations to provide in community outreach and promote various programs within the Health Services Department. The Education Outreach Worker will develop and facilitate educational workshops and presentations, provide student educational guidance, health career guidance; may be responsible for the administration of specific program areas, planning educational events, speakers and/or providing advice and guidance to health programs. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Education Outreach Worker helps to ensure compliance with SNP’s strategic goals, performs research, reports and correspondence to support department outreach as well as works in close collaboration with stakeholders and external partners to support program needs. The Education Outreach Worker will be adaptable and flexible to the needs of the community and prioritize outreach activities that meet community needs. The Education Outreach Worker is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).
Duties
The duties of the Education Outreach Worker include, without limitation
**Initiatives & Development**
- Developing, coordinating and implementing educational programs and activities for students, community and staff;
- Identifying, recruiting, and supporting target audiences;
- Assisting in supporting/guiding and educating Indigenous youth and adult learners in health programs;
- Developing, preparing and delivering interactive health care exercises to primary, high school and post secondary students;
- Developing resource materials such as visuals, demonstration supplies, and program communications;
- Plans, presents, and evaluates various local community education and outreach programs;
- Researching, creating, and writing information and educational tools and gathering resource materials such as visuals, demonstration supplies, and literature as required;
- Attending partner and committee meetings which may include working outside of normal working hours, responding in a timely manner to requests for information, liaising with representatives from Mohawk College, Six Nations Health Services, & SNP IS;
- Organizing meetings with external stakeholders and organizations;
- Participating in regular check-in meetings with the Unit Manager to ensure communications are clear and expectations are being met while completing designated projects and initiatives;
- Preparing submission timelines and outlines, and clearly defining and communicating information requirements to other departments, as appropriate;
- Coordinating and submitting monthly and special reports to the Unit Manager for SNP Steering Committee concerning key issues;
- Assisting in the timely response of questions posed by potential funders and donors regarding funding submissions;
**General Administration**
- Developing an approved work plan for the efficient and effective discharge of all tasks and activities;
- Knowing, understanding, and following existing SNP policies and processes, while supporting the collaborative development and effective implementation of new and emergent policies and processes;
- Assisting the Unit Manager and SNP with the coordination of program promotions and marketing as it relates to media communication activities to improve outreach to the community;
- Adhering to all staff policies and processes, including conforming to deadlines and reporting requirements;
- Participating in and maintaining a supportive environment conducive to learning and working at SNP;
- Performing delegated administrative management tasks; and
- Other related duties, as required.
**Qualifications**
**Education & Experience**
- Bachelors Degree in related discipline i.e., health sciences, nursing, education, or administration, or an administrative service field;
- Experience in developing successful communications in print and using multiple platforms;
- Experience with some or all of the following: presentation and facilitation of workshops, public speaking, adult teaching
