**Job Title**: Development Associate, Urban Design
**Reports To**: Executive Vice President, Development
**Department**: VMC
The Development Associate, Urban Design will be a key member of the VMC team at SmartCentres and will assist in new development projects. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice-President, Development, and working alongside the Development team, this role is an important part of a dynamic group building and maintaining world-class city centers across Canada.
**Responsibilities**:
- Provides day-to-day support to the Executive Vice-President, Developmentand other project leads as required
- Prepare presentations, reports, and analyses at various stages in the development process to drive decisions
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with vendors. Monitors work progress to ensure completion
- Ability to interpret and understand construction drawings and documents. Research and resolves drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors
- Assists Sales & Marketing and Construction in the lead up to sales launches as well as construction starts, respectively
- Research specific political, regulatory, and market trends to keep the business informed of potential changes within the development industry
- Develops deficiency lists and rectifies items through supervising construction managers and trades
- Works with the Development team and assists with general administration as required
- Ability to manage internal and external team members to ensure project timelines are met
- Seeks opportunities to increase skills and expand knowledge base
**Academic/Professional Requirements**:
- Post-secondary education in urban and regional planning and/or GIS, architecture, or related education
**Required Skills / Experience**:
- A minimum of two years of work experience with an engineering, planning, architecture or real estate development firm
- Strong proficiency working with Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, BlueBeam, Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) and MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). Knowledge of Rhino and parametric knowledge is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability analyzing site conditions, building efficiencies, area calculations, feasibility and design analysis, massing and shadow studies, and suite layouts as well as other technical drawings
- Clear, concise, and cogent writing as well as compelling PowerPoint presentations are particularly valued
- Team collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated thoroughness and attention to detail, while also possessing a high-level strategic perspective
- Ability to work on multiple projects, prioritizing and meeting tight deadlines
