Canada's only urban non-profit riding school and equine therapy centre, Halifax Lancers has been Building Better Lives Through Horses since 1936.

In addition to our Therapeutic Riding program, which has been operating since the 1960s, we offer Equine Supported Wellness programs. Youth and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, or mental illness and addictions, and women who have experienced domestic violence, as well as refugee youth have all benefited from the healing power of horses.

**Role Description**

The Operations Manager plays a central role in the day-to-day functioning of Halifax Lancers, ensuring smooth operations across communications, programming, finance, and facilities. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position manages key staff, supports the Board of Directors, and oversees the systems and processes that allow Lancers to deliver exceptional programs and events.

The Operations Manager has two direct reports: Office Administrator and Accounting Officer.

Key Responsibilities
- Communications & Member Relations
- Serve as a point of contact for rider, parent, and member communications.
- Ensure timely communication and delivery of all programs, events, and activities.
- Oversee production of newsletters, website, and social media channels.
- Work with the Steward of Advancement to implement an annual communications plan and promotional campaigns.
- Resolve escalated member concerns with professionalism and efficiency.

Program & Event Management
- Administer all Lancer programming: rider level program, junior and adult lessons, clinics, competitions, summer programming, alumni events, and open houses.
- Work with the Office Administrator to develop and maintain annual program and events calendar
- Coordinate registration, scheduling, and logistics for all programs.
- Lead planning and execution of major events such as the Downtown Horse Show, Winter Awards Gala, March Break camp, and Musical Ride performances.
- Support evaluation of programs and identify efficiencies in workflow and delivery.

Finance & Administration
- Supervise office operations, holding weekly meetings and maintaining task tracking systems.
- Oversee accounts payable/receivable, and day-to-day financial management within budget parameters, and process bi-weekly payroll.
- Ensure grant implementation, reporting, and compliance.
- Support Board and committee work with financial updates and documentation.

Facility & Resource Management
- Coordinate stable and arena operations, including hay, shavings, manure removal, and contractor scheduling.
- Oversee maintenance of barns, paddocks, tack, and equipment.
- Ensure safe, tidy working conditions and proper supply of office, tack, and first aid kits.
- Supervise care of stable cats and routine operational needs.

Leadership & Strategic Support
- Work closely with the Executive Director to provide organizational leadership and ensure operational goals align with Lancers’ mission.
- Prepare for and attend Board and committee meetings, providing updates and recommendations.
- Manage summer students, volunteers, and seasonal staff assignments.
- Lead special projects such as the August Cleanup, annual fundraising events, and facility improvement initiatives.
- Maintain organizational documentation, archives, and handbooks.

Qualifications & Skills
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication abilities.
- Experience managing staff, finances, and complex operations.
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on problem solving.
- Knowledge of equestrian programs or nonprofit operations is an asset.

Pay: $50,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
