MasTec Canada is currently recruiting for a Horizontal Directional Driller with previous industry experience, _**to work on a project near Grande Prairie, Alberta**_**.**

The Horizontal Directional Driller will operate a 100klbs HDD rig, with support of a Locator/Steering Hand and Roughneck. The Horizontal Directional Driller is responsible for the safe operation and basic maintenance of MasTec Canada’s directional drilling equipment and for overseeing the directional drilling crew under the supervision of the Rig Manager.

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**:

- Safely operate the HDD rig in the installation of pipelines and/or conduits
- Conduct operations in multiple locations across Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan in various weather conditions
- Drive crew vehicles and or water truck
- Read and interpret blueprints, stakes, and signage
- Coordinate and organize daily activities of equipment with drivers and operators
- Perform and log pre-operation safety inspections for fueling and greasing the rig and equipment in order to maintain safe and optimal operation
- Conduct general labour duties as required
- Other duties as required

**EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS**:

- 3-5 years' experience operating a Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) rig, specifically smaller rigs up to 100klbs
- Valid CSTS/Ground Disturbance ticket is required
- Construction Safety Certifications including the following are considered assets: H2S Alive, Fall Arrest, WHIMIS and First Aid

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED**:

- Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for promoting and living out MasTec Canada’s 6 Core Values
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and current clean drivers abstract is required
- Self-starter with ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Strong work ethic, with ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
- Respectful, high-energy with positive attitude
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as drilling plans and safety rules
- Ability to identify and report hazards
- Attention to detail

**OTHER REQUIREMENTS**:

- Ability to: sit, stand, bend, climb, lift (up to 50 lbs.), work at heights, and in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat etc.)
- Some travel will be required to site and/or office locations
