**Position summary**

The controller is responsible for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the Company in consultation with the CFO. This includes the monitoring and imputing of financial data, measurement of financial metrics, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.

**Roles and Responsibilities**

Operations:

- Manage and Mentor key members of the finance team
- Maintain a strong knowledge of internal company policies
- Manage the required amendments and improvements to existing financial policy
- Oversee the financial operations of the company, monitoring AP, AR and Grant Reporting
- Manage any third parties to which accounting or finance functions have been outsourced
- Implement and manage the company's transaction processing systems
- Backfill support and ensure the finance team has the tools required to be successful
- Support junior team members in their career goals of obtaining their CPA
- Prepare year end financials for audit
- Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts; providing insight to management team

Reporting:

- Supplying leadership team with applicable reports and data to make sound business decisions
- Oversee the issuance and confidentiality of financial information
- Report on GST, loan requirements, and grant data as required
- Lead the finance team in development of key financial dashboards
- Provide invoicing and collections support to the multiple maintenance departments

(line, heavy, and personnel services)

Risk Management:

- Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
- Report risk issues to the CFO and Managing Director
- Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements in relation to finance
- Understand and mitigate key elements of financial risk through accurate bookkeeping processes.

Third Parties:

- Participate in conference calls with lenders and key financial parties
- Maintain banking relationships
- Represent the company with investment bankers when requested

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

- Oversight of full cycle accounting and all financial transactions of the entity
- Ensuring that the books and records of the entity are kept in accordance with GAAP
- Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions
- Design, implement and maintain client monthly / quarterly / annual reporting (financial, lease, and operations reporting), forecasting, and budgeting standards and processes to ensure compliance and effective business management
- Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met
- Maintain regular contact and build solid working relationships with the Operations personnel by providing necessary financial information and support
- Ensure evolving Operations requirements are anticipated and integrated into the accounting and finance processes
- Support audits (internal and external) including the audit workflow and deliverables and be the liaison with auditors as required
- Evaluate current processes & controls, recommend process improvements and upon approval implement appropriate process improvements that demonstrate fiduciary due care
- Manage projects for Accountable Executive/Managing Director as they arise within the corporate group
- Actively participating in the HeavyAero Safety Management System and Quality Assurance program
- Respect and uphold all the Company policies, procedures & performance expectations

**Skills and Qualifications**:
Minimum:

- Professional accounting designation (CPA) and have advanced accounting education combined with a university degree in a related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
- Advanced competencies in accounting standards (ASPE / IFRS), finance, audit, and design, implementation, and presentation of advanced financial and business reporting;
Proven success in:

- Supervising: If work requires supervising and monitoring work performance through the assistance of other supervisors or administrators, including making final decisions on hiring and disciplinary actions, evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness, and realigning work and staffing assignments, as needed
- Being a team player capable of contributing operationally and cooperatively as a member of the accounting management team
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Communicating in a variety of formats and with confidence in internal and external meetings and group presentation settings
- Demonstrating professionalism, integrity and high personal standards by their actions, personal interactions and deliverables
- Ability to plan, prioritize and assign work, motivate and coach team members, manage deliverables to budget and schedule, solve problems and make effective decisions
