**Southeast Collegiate** is the only school of its kind in all of Canada It serves as a campus to **First Nations students**during the school year - educating students in a beautiful school facility and providing housing in the adjoining lodge.
Southeast Collegiate is seeking an experienced and compassionate **Mental Health Coach/Navigator**to join our Life Skills Team for the September 2025 to June 2026 school year.
**Job Overview**
**Reports to**: School Psychologist
**Employment**:Full-Time TERM (Last week of August-June; 10 months)**
Possibility of being renewed into a permanent position, depending on performance and operational needs
**Schedule**:Monday through Friday
Hours: Typically 8:30 am - 4:30 pm; may work later hours (e.g., 11am-7pm) on certain days of the week, depending on student needs
**Key Responsibilities**:
Provide ongoing follow-up to ensure students receive the care they need after a crisis.
Act as the primary point of contact for our students, their families and staff, helping them navigate the school’s mental health resources and external services, including making referrals to external professionals and traditional healing practices.
Provide guidance and mentorship to students, helping them develop coping strategies, resilience, and a positive sense of identity.
Provide group information sessions to students, in classroom setting or after school, teaching coping strategies for students to “put in their mental health tool box”.
Encourage students to practice coping skills.
Monitor student well-being and progress, and connect them with appropriate resources as needed.
Incorporate Indigenous cultural practices, values, and teachings into the mental health support process.
Organize culturally relevant activities and events that promote mental wellness and strengthen cultural identity.
Mental Health Progress Reports - the purpose is to track the progress of who is receiving mental health support. Reports may include:
- Crisis Intervention Report (as needed) Record details of mental health crisis & the interventions provided
- Mental Health Navigation Report (Monthly) Document the navigation of mental health services for students & families
- Student Progress Reports (Monthly)
- Cultural Integration Activities Report (Quarterly) report on the integration of Indigenous cultural practices into mental health support.
- Annual Program Evaluation Report (Annually)
- Education Report (every 6 months) Documents efforts to educate students & advocate for mental health needs of students
Education & Advocacy:
- Advocate for the mental health needs of Indigenous students, ensuring their voices are heard and respected within the school system.
- Stay informed about best practices in our mental health and well-being, sharing knowledge with the school community. Willing to engage in professional development relevant to the job position.
Other duties as assigned by the School Psychologist
Duties may evolve or change over time to more effectively support students and staff
**Qualifications**:
- Grade 12 with post secondary education in mental health and or addictions.
- ASSIST & NVCI, Mental Health First Aid training or willingness to complete same. Trauma-Informed care would be an asset. Must be culturally competent in mental health.
- Certification or training in Indigenous mental health practices or mental health navigation is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a role related to mental health support, navigation, or working with Indigenous populations.
- Experience working within educational settings or with high school-aged youth is an asset.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and understand ethical & legal responsibilities in providing mental health support services, This is an expected competency as this role works with sensitive and highly confidential personal information.
- Ability to set strong boundaries.
- Must be able to effectively work as part of a team and independently, while fostering a positive work culture.
- Understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and the historical context affecting Indigenous mental health.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, (both written and verbal) with the ability to build trust and rapport with students and families.
- Ability to navigate complex systems and connect students with appropriate services and resources.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and culturally responsive practices.
- Compassionate, empathetic, and culturally sensitive
- Clear Current Child Abuse Registry and Criminal Record Check (required)
**Employees with treaty status under the Indian Act are exempt from federal income tax at SEC.**

Pay: $28.37-$33.60 per hour
