**About Us**:
Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (MBQ) is a vibrant First Nation community located on the beautiful shores of the Bay of Quinte. We are located approximately 20 minutes from Belleville, ON and centrally located between Toronto and Ottawa. There are approximately 11,000 registered members with approximately 2200 residing in Tyendinaga. **Position Summary**:
- The Enhanced Support Educator is responsible for provide support to the preschool programs by providing 1:1 or enhanced focus on those in the room that have enhanced needs. The expectation of this position is to provide support. This support can include specialized and individual support to children with special needs, support to educators and families with inclusion activities, and support to other educators, children and families. The Enhanced Support Worker will also be expected to increase the accessibility of early learning and care for children with special needs through enhanced developmental, physical and social/emotional support with on-going assessments, evaluations and enhanced accommodations, as well as work closely with the parents/caregivers to support them as the primary caregiver, teacher and role-model.
**Reporting**:
This position will report to the Tahatikonhsotontie Head Start Manager. This position has no direct reports.
**Summary of Main Responsibilities**:
**Provide support to children with special needs, their families and educators**:
- ensure children of all abilities have equal access to and participate meaningfully in the preschool programs.
- providing daily program that is inclusive of children with additional support needs and reflects the developmental capabilities of all the children
- work as part of a team that meets the social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of all children in the preschool program.
**Perform assessments and develop related plans in collaboration with parents, make referrals and provide support**:
- develop an individual support plan (ISP) for any child with special needs who requires aids, adaptations or modifications and ensure staff are aware of the ISP and all other plans and goals for each child with enhanced needs
- assist in strategies to increase attachment relationships between children and their educator as well as the management of the behavioural and emotional needs of the child.
- discuss daily events and child progress with all relevant parties
- as required, the incumbent may also provide consultation, crisis support, individual and/or group support services to children/youth and families receiving services from the Agency whether the family is birth/natural family, Kin family, foster care family or adopting family
**Health and Safety**:
- promoting and following all MBQ Health and Safety policies and procedures
- follow all CCEYA policies and procedures

**Requirements**:
- Diploma in Development Service Worker or Early Childhood Educator preferred
- Diploma in a relevant area, including Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, etc. will be accepted.
- Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators would be an asset
- 1 year experience working with children with exceptional needs, experience with high-risk children/families would be considered an asset
- Experience in a First Nations setting is an asset
- Combination of training, education and experience may be considered (at the discretion of the organization)
- Must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (documentation will be required if successful applicant)
- First Aid and CPR an asset (and must be willing to take the training if hired)
- Valid Driver’s License and vehicle
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
- Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act
- Knowledge of different exceptionalities
- Ability to provide services towards understanding and skill development for caregivers
- Knowledge of curriculum development, implementation and delivery
- Good knowledge of child development and growth
- Knowledge of facilitation practices in of group settings
- Basic Knowledge of on and off reserve services to refer clients
- Basic knowledge of cultural beliefs and practices relating to family and childrearing
- Knowledge of children’s resources in the community, and have ability to access new opportunities
