The 1st Cook is responsible for meal preparation, supervision of employees, inventory, and administrative tasks on board a train in remote areas across Northern Ontario, although travel to other provinces may be required. The cook will ensure that customer service standards are met in accordance with Northstar Frontier policies and procedures, and work in a friendly, efficient manner, while managing special requests and/or complaints from the customer. The position requires the individual to have excellent time management, organization and communication skills, with the ability to work well under pressure both independently and as part of a team. Criminal background check will be conducted by the employer upon offer of employment.

**Job Objectives**
- Prepare and present high quality meals in accordance with menu specifications, crew size, menu plan and appropriate timelines in accordance with Food Safety Guidelines.
- Uphold the highest standards of cleanliness, safety and conduct.
- Ensure that food costs and stock are controlled and that groceries are utilized effectively, keeping spoilage and waste to a minimum.
- Proper food storage, rotation, and discarding of expired foods using HACCP and FIFO guidelines.
- Perform unloading, loading, and stocking of groceries and supplies.
- Record inventory and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Prepare and place food and supply orders.
- Receive and account for quantity and quality of purchased inventory.
- Maintain professional personal hygiene at all times.
- Complete and submit Meal Reports and Timesheets accurately and on time.
- Prepare staff schedules and effectively manage labour hours.
- Maintain a clean and infection-free work area and living quarters at all times.
- Report any repairs/maintenance issues (such as leaky faucets or toilets, loose tiles, broken window panes, missing nuts or screws, repairs/replacement of furniture or equipment) to Camp Attendant.

**Working Conditions**
- Must be able to move continuously (lift, carry, sit, push, pull, stretch, walk, bend) during work hours and able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds
- Must be available and willing to work a minimum of 12 hrs/shift (split shift may be necessary depending on circumstance)
- May require working in damp, dusty and dirty areas.
- Will be required to sleep on board the train during work cycles and may encounter noise during sleep hours
- May be required to carry loads up and down stairs/ladders on a consistent basis
- May be required to handle infectious material (soiled linen and towels)
- Will be exposed to various outdoor weather conditions such as heat, cold, insects etc....

Although travel to and from work location is provided by employer, access to own vehicle is considered an asset.

**Job Type**: Seasonal
Contract length: 6 months

**Salary**: $25.00 per hour
