The Safety Codes Council (Council) is an independent, self-funded regulatory organization mandated to provide oversight of the system and technical disciplines through a number of key legislated functions and client focused services. **THE OPPORTUNITY**
The Safety Codes Auditor is responsible for reviewing practices, policies, and procedures of accredited organizations and certified individuals to ensure they are meeting the organization’s terms of accreditation, the approved Quality Management Plan, and the intent of the Safety Codes Act.
The Safety Codes Auditor conducts reviews of accredited organizations’ performance through an assessment of permitting and inspection services of the accredited organizations and the associated documentation produced in the management of permits and projects. These reviews include assessing the internal policies and procedures in relation to their management of the Safety Codes System within their jurisdiction.
As a seasoned safety codes officer with expertise in the plumbing and gas discipline, you will provide the Council expert advice on matters and issues in these disciplines, measure the effectiveness of certified safety codes officers and permit issuers in relation to their competence and judgement, and assist in the development and delivery of training provided by the Council.

Your experience in working with a wide variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders is key to success in the role.
You possess a high degree of integrity, expertise and analytical decision making skills, with the ability to identify and manage conflicts of interests. You demonstrate proficiency, objectivity, impartiality, and sound judgement when determining and administering audit procedures.
**THE DETAILS**
- Conduct audits of accredited organizations by reviewing and interpreting data, preparing written working papers and reports, and expressing conclusions of the assessments.
- Evaluate and provide recommendations on audit findings and prepare audit reports.
- Assist accredited organizations and representatives with expert advice and recommendations.
- Provide guidance and advice to other safety codes officers on technical matters.
- Provide advice and support with the delivery of the building safety codes officer training program.
- Provide analysis and delivery of workshops for safety codes officers regarding roles, responsibilities, and understanding of safety codes operations and related legislations.
- Contribute to the establishment and implementation of improvements to existing methods, policies, procedures, and best practices.
**THE REQUIREMENTS**
- Senior level safety codes officer certification in Plumbing (Group A and Group B) and Gas (Group A) disciplines is required.
- 5 years’ experience as safety codes officer in administering the Alberta Plumbing and/or Gas Codes is required.
- Safety Codes Officer Certification in Building Part 3 and/or 9 is an asset.
- Post-secondary education related to auditing, quality assurance, contract management, or compliance management is an asset.
- Experience in a municipal or agency setting is desirable.
- Experience in managing projects and using industry-recognized project management techniques is an asset.
- Experience providing advice to senior decision-makers.
- Experience using office software (e.g., Adobe, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Zoom).

- Must possess a valid drivers’ license and be willing to travel throughout the province.
- Position works in the field and remotely and will be required to attend periodic meetings in the Council’s office.
- The Council’s office is located at 10405 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta.
- Hours of work: 36.25 hours per week (Monday - Friday).
