Conventional Transit Operations Supervisor

The Transit Supervisor, Conventional Operations is responsible for Transit Services to the residents of Strathcona County and parts of the Edmonton Region. This role involves overseeing Transit Inspectors and Conventional Operators. The position is also responsible for coaching and leading Inspectors in incident investigations, incident management, service monitoring, and adjustments to maintain a positive customer experience. This position will also support Inspectors in disciplinary/performance management investigations concerning their direct reports when appropriate. Furthermore, this position is responsible for the performance management of both non-unionized and unionized staff.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Coordinates the delivery of transit services to ensure safe and positive customer experiences
- Motivates and inspires staff by fostering communication, continuous improvement, innovation, and learning, helping all staff understand how the role of each position contributes to the vision and mission of the department
- Coordinates the work of the on-street inspection function by hiring, training and implementing performance management when required
- Establishes shift schedules and monitors the work to ensure adherence to established guidelines, rules, and regulations
- Supervises the daily monitoring of scheduled service and on-street adjustments to service to maximize the utilization of available bus capacity.
- Directs the planning and implementation of route detours with consideration to customer satisfaction
- Liaise with Dispatch and Fleet branches to ensure the safe operation of transit service and vehicles
- Collaborate with various County departments to ensure high standards for effective transportation for special event service and charter service
- Reviews and coordinates the investigation of incidents, requests, and complaints and determine appropriate responses or solutions
- Exercises strong fiscal management, including the development of annual operating budgets, the monitoring and managing of financial resources, and preparing required reports
**Qualifications and Skills**:
- A certificate in Public Sector Management or Human Resource Management with at least 5 years' progressive supervisory experience and knowledge of transit operational policies and procedures
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including strong communication and team-building capabilities
- Ability to analyze information and make sound decisions quickly, often in stressful conditions with time constraints
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written, verbal, and listening abilities
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with others
- Thorough knowledge of the Strathcona County transit route network and street system/traffic regulations in the Edmonton Capital Region
- Knowledge of the County's transit by-laws and of the Alberta Traffic Safety Act applicable to public transit vehicles
- Emergency first aid training
**Conditions of Employment**
- Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Valid Alberta Class 2 Driver’s license with Air Brake (Q) endorsement and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
