Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual who loves working in a fast paced environment for our Supervisor - Urban Forestry position. This is a supervisory and skilled arboricultural position performing work in parks, boulevards, natural areas and other municipal properties, consisting of the planning and maintaining Oak Bay’s urban forest of indigenous and ornamental trees. **RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Coordinates, assigns, supervises and assists parks crews engaged in work of varying complexity.
- Develops and implements Oak Bay’s tree maintenance programs in accordance with industry standards.
- Conducts site inspections to review activities of contractors and outside agencies to ensure adherence to required specifications.
- Prepares reports and evaluations on trees and maintains written records.
- Manages tree related work orders, pruning, and planting schedules in an efficient manner
- Liaises with other municipal departments, homeowners, and the public regarding all aspects of the municipal tree bylaw
- Performs field inspections to ensure project completion in accordance with acceptable tree protection during construction, responds to and investigates citizen complaints, does risk assessments, and other field duties relating to municipal tree policies and regulations.
- Performs other arboricultural tasks as required including physical work.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Technical school diploma in Horticulture/Arboriculture, and four years related experience including supervisory experience.
- Completion of Chain Saw Safety, Electrical Safety and Knowing Your Approaches courses;
- International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certification including Certified Tree Climber.
- British Columbia Pesticide Applicator's Certificate.
- ISA Tree Risk Assessor Qualification (TRAC).
- Current Occupational First Aid Level 1 with CPR-C certification.
- Provision of a current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (Note: This is the applicant’s financial responsibility to obtain this).

**HOURS OF WORK** **Monday-Friday **7:00am-3:30pm (40hrs/week)
- Work hours may vary based on operational requirements._
**LOCATION(S)** Oak Bay Parks Department
**RATE** $43.48/hr - 2024 rate
**STATUS** Regular Full Time (This is a union position)
