**Job Title: Archive Assistant**

**Organization**:S.S. Sicamous Marine Heritage Society.

**Departments**:Museum - Archives.

**Report to**: Archivist

**Wage**: $17.30 per hour.

**Job Status**: Temporary Seasonal - Summertime - 40 hours.

**Will I work weekends or evenings?** Yes, on select occasions our Archive Assistant will work historical events, the museum, and other functions.

**Dates of Employment**:May 9th to Aug 26 or Sept 2 (approx. 16 weeks).

**Job Statement**: The SS Sicamous is a big ship with a small crew, so the work is varied, and flexibility is important. You will be responsible for many different activities providing you with flexibility and job variety to keep the position interesting and fun throughout the summer season.

**Essential Functions**:
Undertake museum research projects (3 - 6 per employment): research an archive, create posters / signs, create QR codes, and add to our museum blog, etc.

Open and Closing the Museum and Gift Shop.

Answering the phone and assisting with Client inquiries.

Look after the front desk as needed, depending on availability of summer staff and volunteers.

General cleaning arounds the ship weekly/daily.

Conduct guided historical tours for events, school groups, and regular client walk-ins.

Assisting the Archivist with displays and helping prepare for winter changes.

Respond to research requests from members of the public.

Continue to improve crew lists and assist with undertaking oral history interviews.

Assist with keeping track of items brought in, enforce the collections policy, and collect information about donors.

Accession and photograph artefacts. Ensure that records are added to the collections database (a Microsoft Access File) and that database is kept up to date.

Transfer relevant materials to another museum when applicable or appropriate.

Assist with documenting digital archives to Excel and Access.

Ensure bilge collections are in good order and maintain or remove files as needed.

Assist the Archivist with research and develop museum/historical content for social media, mainly Facebook.

Photograph activities of volunteers and maintain modern photo archives.

**Job Requirements**:

- Enthusiasm.
- Willingness to learn.
- Happy to clean (it’s a big boat).
- An interest in Canadian History.

**Salary**: $15.65-$17.35 per hour
