The Role

The **OPERATIONAL** **CONTROLLER** position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, including financial reporting, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. The controller is responsible for allocating responsible resources to execute where required on below accountabilities. This role reports to CFO.

Key Accountabilities:
**Operations**
- Liaise with operations management to maintain controls around ERP inputs such as work orders, bill of materials, material resource planning and month end closing procedures
- Audit product costing, report variances and implement best practices
- Collect production information and analyze manufacturing and logistics costs and advise senior management on creating efficiencies
- Establish and monitor KPI’s with all department heads
- Cost savings and protecting company assets.

**Accounting**
- Maintain chart of accounts, oversee receivables, payables and payroll, ensuring that all are within acceptable parameters and following company’s best practices
- Act as bank administrator for online banking and assign access and permissions to appropriate personnel
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions through ERP by managing permissions and authorizations. Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures, ensuring that an orderly accounting filing system is being maintained
- Own cash flow and work with Fractional CFO & CEO to strategically manage vendor payments that align with production timelines and commitments
- Accountable for all finance and accounting team members (offshore & domestic), including mentoring, coaching, training, regular checkins
- Accountable for capacity planning of the finance and accounting functions and collaborating with HR to ensure that the departmental functions are supported by the appropriate number of resources, whether they are internal or external

**Finance**
- Liaise with Fractional CFO to ensure that all functions of the finance team are being addressed and all relative reports are accurate and submitted to management consistently and on time
- Analyze profit and loss by product/client programs and work with sales team on projections and strategy
- Work with Fractional CFO on the preparation of annual corporate filing and coordinate the provision of information to external auditors and accountant
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the company performance (KPI’s), calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
- Create dashboards/reports, derive insights from data and communicate findings with stakeholders with strategic recommendations
- Prepare company budget by working with each department lead to create realistic departmental budgetary goals
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
- Liaise with CEO and Fractional CFO to monitor debt levels and maintain compliance with debt covenants with all lenders
- Comply with government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Recommend and participate in recruiting resources that are required to support finance functions

**Qualifications**
- Must have experience in a manufacturing/production environment
- Must have an entrepreneurial mindset with a growth mindset and a self-starter attitude
- Must be a trailblazer, enjoy working both independently and collaboratively
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration
- CPA designation, or equivalent knowledge/experience
- 10 years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a me
