**Description**
- BetaKit is seeking a dynamic and experienced reporter to join its award-winning editorial team. The publication of record for Canadian technology and innovation, BetaKit delivers daily news, high-quality podcasts and newsletters, impactful partnership opportunities, and must-attend events across the country to an audience of more than 4 million people.

Based in Edmonton, the Prairies Reporter will be responsible for covering tech in the Prairies region. The role will be funded for two years through an innovative partnership with YEGAF, a not-for-profit entity dedicated to amplifying business news in Alberta.

The full-time, two-year contract comes with benefits and the opportunity to drive the expansion of BetaKit’s Canadian news coverage. The Prairies Reporter will be instrumental in providing local journalism that connects to the national tech conversation.

**Responsibilities**
- Monitor and identify compelling tech, business, and startup stories across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba relevant to both local and national audiences.
- Report, gather, and write a variety of original news content, including breaking news, briefs, features, trends, event coverage, and investigative work.
- Establish and grow a rich network of sources across the Prairies.
- Uphold and enforce BetaKit’s editorial standards.
- Represent and promote BetaKit as required in a variety of external public formats (e.g., public events, social media, etc.).

- Proven ability to file great work under tight deadlines
- Integrity, empathy, and a point of view

**Education**:

- Journalism/communications preferred.

**Experience**:

- Newsroom and business journalism experience is an asset, along with demonstrated interest and passion in Canadian tech.
- Familiarity with the Prairies region, and an interest in telling its stories.
