The Royal Alexandra Hospital - Lois Hole Hospital for Women located in downtown Edmonton, AB, offers comprehensive high risk obstetrical and maternity care and provides surgical treatment of ovarian, cervical, and other gynecological cancers. The hospital serves as a Centre of excellence for Women’s Health in the Edmonton area and northern Alberta. Labor and Delivery supports the care of over 6,500 births a year. The Unit Manger in Labor and Delivery (L&D) - Women’s Health is a key leadership role and reports directly to the Patient Care Manager, Obstetrics. This position is accountable for the overall performance of Labor & Delivery services provided in the assessment/triage area, L&D unit, and Obstetrical Operating Room area. The Unit Manager - L&D ensures the delivery of safe patient care to mother/fetus dyads at different stages of labor and immediate postpartum care. This position is responsible and accountable for providing operational leadership and decision making in support of: Direct patient care, staffing, attendance management, education.

Description:
The Unit Manger in Labor and Delivery (L&D) - Women’s Health is a key leadership role and reports directly to the Patient Care Manager, Obstetrics. This position is accountable for the overall performance of Labor & Delivery services provided in the assessment/ triage area, L&D unit, and Obstetrical Operating Room area. The Unit Manager - L&D ensures the delivery of safe patient care to mother/fetus dyads at different stages of labor and immediate postpartum care. This position is responsible and accountable for providing operational leadership and decision making in support of direct patient care, staffing, attendance management, education. The Unit Manager, L&D is also responsible for: Leadership of L&D personnel including nursing and support staff. Facilitating sustaining the learning needs of nursing and support staff to optimize their professional and clinical development. Identifying budget requirements for the unit (human, material, and capital resources) to safely meet unit and patient needs and optimize the unit workflow. Resolving complex and challenging problems concerning human resources management and staffing levels in a unionized environment, to ensure adequate service levels are maintained. The Unit Manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders as required providing optimal and integrated services.

**Required Qualifications**:
A minimum of Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, and eligible or registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). A minimum of three to five (3-5) years of experience in obstetrics leadership role ideally in an organizing of similar size, complexity, and diversity.

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
In addition, the incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas: progressive informal leadership experience over a period of at least 3-5 years in L&D area of a tertiary care center. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, and mentoring and ability to inspire and build confidence in others. The successful incumbent must have a thorough understanding of obstetrics with experience in the provision of safe care to low and high-risk pregnant individuals in a dynamic and demanding environment. Principles of Trauma Informed Care must be an integral part of the successful incumbent practice.
